Just listened to the new Bond theme and thinking back to many others and it makes you realise how totally innovative and under rated Bat Dance was. Never forget the UK Premiere on Radio 1 in '88 and the DJ raving about it saying something like 'Prince once again takin his fans to a place where only they can go'. Title trax which then followed used a very similar principle i.e movie samples, up tempo, funk/rock driven etc.
Time to go put the 7" in!.
p.s. just how do you spell mould, should it 'mold'? help!.

In the UK it is spelled 'mould' and we invented the god damn language so we are right.

The only thing that comes close to Batdance stylistically is Queen's theme for Flash Gordon, movie samples, up tempo, funk/rock driven etc.

Bat Dance is such a stellar track, it gets a bit of flack, as if it's a novelty song or something, but it's wild, frenetic, completely all-over the place, but with structure. It's several songs in one really.... Prince could've really exploited that for remixes and such (imagine a Batman Maxi-Single a la Gett Off).

When Batdance came out in the UK, it already sounded dated. It was 2 years behind what the Prodigy (and others) had aleady done.

It was at this point Prince started to follow, not lead.

Yep. Batdance was old news in the UK. I found it a little annoying, a little embarrassing and a little exciting... I loved the guitar on the track... and then the album came out. Poor.
