If Prince didn't exist, where would you be now?

Just imagine that there is no Prince Rogers Nelson. Or at least, there never was the "Prince" we know as a musical artist. How would this have affected your life?

Exactly how important has the man's art been to your life? How would it have impacted you by now if all of his music simply never existed?

I can just imagine going through things like losing my old gfs, and not having Purple Rain to make me cry and feel better. Or having terrible fights with my parents and not being able to turn to When Doves Cry to remind myself that I'm not alone. I don't even want to imagine having to experience my cat dying without Sometimes it Snows in April there to soothe my broken heart.

We always complain about our favourite little guy, but really, where would we be without his music? Think long and hard about this.

That's quite dismissive of the power of great music. Music is therapy, and one many can't live without.

I, for one am not even sure I wouldn't have given up a few years back when my life was in the toilet had it not been for the inspiration that came to me every time I listened to Purple Rain.

I really dig Prince, but my life is not defined by him or his music. I'd probably be at some other weird fan site right now.

razz

I honestly think I would have needed to latch on to somebody else's music, especially in adolescence. So who knows, if Prince didn't exist I might be on a Bob Dylan website somewhere, or something.

Only the random jerk who just posts to be an ass doesn't have good feelings about Prince music. Prince did what we're all supposed to do in life. Make the world a better place for having been here. Taking the girl who would be my wife to see Under The Cherry Moon on our first date. You can't put a price on that. If Prince didn't exist I would imagine we'd all still be somewhere enjoying someone else's music, but I'm really glad God decided to create Prince in my generation. I have to go now..I told myself I wasn't going to cry. sad

Oh, pardon me. I didn't know I was supposed to frame my answer based on the impact of Prince on your life.

You asked where I'd be without Prince. My life has never been in the toilet...and if it had been, it certainly would not have been one person's music that pulled it out. (Unless, of course, the musician was me.)

i'm not sure. i mean if he didn't exist would u even be asking this this question?no. so i think if we didn't know something as great as prince existed we would just go on with out him and wouldn't miss him and just go along without him. i don't think we would live in misery because he was of non-existence. think about it. wat did u do before u were into him? did u live in dismay then.i hope not. however he has had a major impact on my life and if he was of non-existence now that i know about him. i wouild REALLY! be affected.

Egads!! Where's the freakin'org love at man?! Of course he's not God. Maybe I'm wrong but I believe he's asking what profound effect has Prince's music had on your life and has it been richer because of it. Perhaps you've never felt like doing anything as drastic as cashing in your own chips but maybe there's a slight chance that Prince music has meant more to you than just music. I doubt we would miss what we (hypothetically) never had but you gotta have big love for the person whom God allowed to play so many songs in the soundtrack of your life.

Damn that's corny.

Peace

PurpleKnight, I give you respect. I often read your posts and often agree with them. But to answer your question I probably be right where I am just not as satisfied. P's music gives me and has given me much satisfaction at various times. I totally agree with your comment about the impact about powerful music such as P's but I would still say where I am now is where I want to be and I probably would be here with or without P. I get the sense you wouldn't and don't feel the same way. biggrin See you on the org!

Musically without Prince 4 the last 28 years? My mind can't even go there.....Prince came along when all of fav grupus at the time all seem 2 fall off the music map at the same time: Ohio Players, Isleys, P-Funk, Confunsion, Barkays, Brothers Jonhson, Lenny White, and a host of others. he single handedly replaced them ALL in my musical landscape.

Good question , good thread, especially Purple Knights remarks about his ex gfs and his parents, I feel the same way. The man´s music helped me through a lot of bad times when other music wasn´t really able to reach my soul.

For that, I´m very grateful. We should be glad that he´s still around, doing what he´s doing, looking healthy and fine, still creative and talented and still prosperous, unlike most artists who looked fat and bloated ten years after their last hit and who fucked up their lives.

Prince is still the coolest musician out there.

HI.. You got a bit of "grief" regarding this post and I think it was really
a wonderful one. biggrin
I think people who act like "oh so what if Prince never was" are
lying to themselves.. Its pretty obvious that Prince means something
to them or they would not even be on "The Org" right??
I think some are just afraid to admitt how much he actually HAS
changed our lives!

To answer your question.. my life would be a whole lot different I
am sure.... First of all when I got married my hubby & I were such huge
fans that we put all our time, effort and money into seeing Prince.
Now we did have a load of fun~ wink Got to see him at Glam Slam
Paisley park, various shows.. even ended up in the "Days of Wild"
video 2 times.. so I am NOT really complaining.. but we kinda put our
"family" plans on hold.. Back when we first got married Prince was
All over. Glam Slam was HOT and The NPG stores were kickin' off.. so
there was always neat stuff to do.
The past 5 years or so things have really quieted down and gone are all
those great chances to see the man up close and personal.. so now we are
getting near the age where a family is a bit of a tough trick..
Won't go into details.. but lets just say once you get over 35
life DOES change....
If I could go back and do it again I would understand that the funk and
the excitement and all was great... but we needed to think more about
our lives after Prince (or with a lack of him) But we still would not
want to give up all the great things we have experienced with and
through him.
Peace ~~ smile

Well I would be a lot richer not buying all his music. Well I guess I would still be listening more to other artist that I like .
