Are we chalking up 2006 as a great year for Prince or not?.

Brit awards performance [mending fences with W&L], number 1 album in the U.S.,number 1 album in Europe, sold min of 1m worldwide, UK Hall of fame awards, showed his gravitas by being a total prima donna in the Pop idol final and appeared on his terms, the Vegas thing[looks to be a good deal for him although methinks the mid week bookings will struggle to put bums on seats!],several high profile TV spots, song of the heart in a major movie etc. Yeah the Boy done good this year. Above all else i think he delivered an album that came close to the essence of the P we all know andlove

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

O.K. i guess we could mention the D word, the screwed up marketing campaign for 3121, falling out with yet another record label, the Milk & Honey issues, ahem!. Still think it's been a good year though. That P is just a rollercoaster!.

I'll say this: It's a hell of a lot more fun being a Prince fan now then it was during the symbol era. Sure, I miss Paisley gigs as much as the next person, but it is great to see Prince get the repect he deserves rather than just being regarded as an obscure artist that no one cares about. It is cool to see him in the public eye, and be treated like the great artist that he's always been.

I can understand why you'd almost forget 3121. By now, it does seem like a long time since it came out. biggrin

I think it has been a decent year for Prince overall despite he suddenly stop promoting the 3121 project.

Let's bring on 2007!!!

My only problem, is i wish he had toured with 3121 rather than Musicology!

It's a 10x better album in my opinion biggrin

Well, he's now cemented his position as an admired musical legend, and gotten away from the "crazy, washed up 80's star" that he was becoming in the 90's. I'd say it wasn't a bad year.

Probably good for him financially, but he released a sub-par album which, together with Musicology, had some saying (jokingly) he was on his way to become a sell-out in Vegas.

And then...he sold out and went to Vegas. neutral

So good year for his wallet. Crap year for his integrity.

I think we often forget just how lucky we are as Prince fans...

2006 SO FAR:

OFFICIAL RELEASES:
-3121 album (including singles/videos for "Te Amo", "Black Sweat" and "Fury")
-Ultimate Prince
-Diamonds & Pearls DVD release
-"Song Of The Heart" (Happy Feet Soundtrack)
-"Time" (from Rhonda Smith's new album RS2, featuring Prince)
-"Rock Steady (live)", "Partyman - It's Alright (live)" (streamed at npgmc)
-"Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful", "GCS: It's Alright (live)" (npgmc downloads)
-"Sunday In The Park", "All Eye Want Is U", "Holla & Shout" (Támar tracks from the cancelled Milk & Honey album which made it to radio)

THE CONCERTS:
-The "Támar featuring Prince" tour earlier in the year
-The 3121 Vegas club thing
-heaps of other one-off gigs (Butter NY, Versace afterparty etc.)

TV APPEARANCES:
-Saturday Night Live! (who could forget that one!!!)
-Brits
-Good Morning America
-American Idol
-BET Awards
-Webby Awards
-Versace Fashion Show
-UK Hall Of Fame

THE BOOTLEG SCENE:
-Hotel California
-Beautiful, Loved & Bootlegged
-Early Morning Lullabies

Definately his best year since... well, 2004 lol Certainly makes up for the dry period last year! Go Prince!!! lol

Ahh yes I agree...and don't forget his highly publicized DIVORCE?!?
Can hardly consider it a great year when you get DIVORCED?!?

Uhh DIVORCED?

I thought that too, until he named his act in Vegas 3121. I guess he's not through with it yet.

I think in some respects, it was a great year. We got to see him on TV more than probably any year this decade. He's stationed in Vegas doing the 3121 shows. 3121 went gold, but also points to a possible direction the next album will be. Happy Feet's soundtrack is at #1. Not counting the divorce, I would say so.
