Christ, speaking in plain English isn't enough these days. As for WB, I still don't get your point - are you agreeing or disagreeing? In any event, you actually don't make an analogy. The NUDE Tour was a new (at the time) business venture to make money (like all concerts), the WB issue was about reclaiming what he rightfully saw as his and, therefore, all future monies coming in off already existing properties.

1. He turned down any money for his work on HAPPY FEET. 2. He's working a 900 seat venue for roughly 200 a head...he'd be making a lot more money doing a regular concert tour. What he's doing is stretching his legs...trying something different for a change. He'll change his mind again real soon. Prince is easy to read when it comes to his money-making projects. PURPLE RAIN, DIAMONDS & PEARLS, BATMAN and MUSICOLOGY were made to "pay the bills" Who said anything about Prince actually needing the money? As for 'trying something different,' well, it's pretty obvious you haven't seen the show yet. "trying something different" wasn't referring to his show...it's obvious that Prince brings the goods to every show. What I was referring to was the whole "Vegas" experience. He's trying a venue for weekend shows plus a restaurant business and merchandise sales...definately something different for him. I say let the man explore his vision. Also, you were the one who brought up Prince "seeing a way to make a fast buck" As I stated, it's not about the money for him, but the artistry...money is a nice side effect from his art. [Edited 11/21/06 15:02pm] Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

[Edited 11/21/06 15:02pm] Point taken about the Vegas venture. Still, you can't know what Prince thinks when it comes to his artistry and/or money. I think he's shown in the past that it IS 'all about the money' at times. I actually don't see anything wrong in this. He's self employed and has one huge asset - his music genius. Don't you think he'd be a fool not to exploit this? If it was all about the artistry then he would just have friends round his house to listen, ha. To say it's all about the 'artistry' for him is both naive and guesswork, quite frankly.

I don't know how anyone can say this Vegas thing is a 'quick buck' - if anything, it is a 'slow buck'! Haha...when was $150 a ticket a 'slow buck.' What planet are you on? Relative to what he could earn... on tour, say with only $75 tickets but with a theatre of 6000 he could earn far more quicker.

Is it that, because he's not doing a global tour in arena's then it's not about the money? Or, that the Las Vegas thing is a loss leader? Or, that he's doing it for fun? I got news for you...its always about the money (why wouldn't it be) and I'm pretty sure he 'ain't losing any in this venture.

I'm sure this happens to the best musicians. I don't know how a person can keep releasing album after album and keep it fresh. It has to get tougher.

Im not saying Prince is at that stage but when he seems reluctant to show the world what he can still do (he could easily have done something at the UK Hall of Fame instead of saying that he could play because he didnt have his band)the general public are going to wonder..I mean its been, what, 4 years since the handful of ONA shows hit Europe. So perhaps Musicology was his Swan Song? I wouldn't dispute that. I happened to like the work he was doing around TRC, but when Musicology came around, I was thrown a little off track.

My point is that if it was entirely about needing a 'fast buck' then surely he would look at a way to maximise his profit, which wouldn't be to rent out a space at an expensive hotel and play 2 nights a week for 900 people, it would be to do a few theatre shows for 5000 people. In other words, to earn the maximum amount of money with as little effort as possible, he would really go on a stripped down Nude tour type tour. Therefore clearly there is a consideration above just earning money. Not that Prince wants to lose money on this venture, he always insists on getting paid. What that consideration, only Prince knows for sure. As is happens, sometimes Prince's artistic vision does supercede his need to earn lots. The Lovesexy tour was so elaborate he barely broke even; only the final Japanese leg brought it into profit and Prince wanted to cancel that! Similarly with the Gold Experience tour, he built a very elaborate set, but only used it for a few shows in the UK before having to leave behind parts of it that were just too bulky to transport easily.

As some people have pointed out, that is really acts that play there for, like, a year or more at a time and nowhere else. It seems likely Prince will only be doing this for a few months and then moving onto something else or a tour. Once he leaves Vegas, those sort of bad images will quickly be forgotten about.
Before the ONA tour, it was 4 years since Prince visited the UK, the 98 New Powersoul/Jam Of The Year tour. Didn't stop the crowds coming out for the ONA tour, I don't think a similar gap would stop them coming out for any tour in the future, though of course as the years go by there is a tendency for any artist to get less and less fans as you get further from their peak years.

How much does the lease for the club run him?
Its all relative, maybe his take will be similar to a small tour since he doesnt have to pay for the crew etc to travel.

Can you tell me where you are getting this impression? I am trying desperately to get to Vegas before he's gone - and I don't know if I have to drop everything to go in January, or if I'll be lucky enough to still catch him in March! I've never been able to see Prince live yet, so this is life or death for me.
