I don't think that was her intention originally. She kinda did get sarcastic after he took her taffy comment badly. That's when she was pointing to the symbol on the cover of the CD. I thought that was funny. I think he was done with Rosie at that point. And later, I can't remember what interview it was. But it was very shortly after he did Rosie's show, he did another interview when he had a very small rant about people not taking the name change seriously and making up names for him. He was pretty touchy about that. I think he is too sensitive. He should've known way before that point that if you're going to do something unusual, people will give you shit for it, no matter how good of a reason you thought you had. Either grow some thicker skin, or stick to socially normal behaviour. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

He was hung out to dry by the british press at every and any opportunity, not to mention the press in other parts of the world. i'm not surprised he lost his rag at times, in fact it's a miracle he didn't more often. i like his sensitivity and vulnerability. makes him an admirable man! No, it makes him a stupid. And I say this as an admiring fan. If he'd explained what he was doing right off -changing his name to get out of a contract, people might have understood and been a little easier on him. Maybe even sympathised a little. The public still would've seen it as weird, but at least they might've understood somewhat. But no -he had to be a silly bugger and say some shit about angels talking to him in dreams and whatnot. By the time he went back to using Prince and finally explained himself, it was too late. The damage had been done, and even with his recent successes the larger public still sees him as two doors down from Michael Jackson-level nuttiness. You can't control public reaction, but you can guide it with your own actions. If he was going to take the route he did, he should have expected the reaction he got. This reminds me of when the fams insist Prince hates beign called gay. Well, the guy does load himself up with feminine clothes and is made up at all times. If it bothered him, would he do it? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

meow85 said: Oh for fuck's sake. Prince IS pretty. Not handsome. Pretty. And sexy is a matter of personal taste. Rosie doesn't swing that way. Why in God's name would she say he's sexy? lol! But now, Ellen Degeneres did call him sexy and even gave him a pair of drawls with her name on them. Maybe she thought he was hot cuz he looks like a girl, though . And he wasn't a bit offended by that, he thought it was funny. He even called her cute I think. But that was years after Rosie. Ah, Prince had a nasty attitude in those days. It was a 7 year long hissy fit. I think if he'd done that interview after the row with Warners and after he became Prince again, he might've had really had fun.

well, prince did write "prettyman" about himself... he calls himself pretty, why can't rosie?
I thought her interview was funny, and I'm glad she broke the ice instead of acting all clammed up around Prince. Much better than those painfully scripted interviews like with Oprah...

I don't think that "pretty man" was a song about prince liking to be recognized or labeled as a "pretty" man.

I thought it was cute! I like when Prince gets interviewed by comedians, cause
he loosens up and relaxes. She didn't say anything bad, she was just playfully teasing. She calls him "cute", and he kinda moans like a kid and says "I don't wanna be cute" I love it! and Somebody's Somebody was, is, always will be AWESOME!!! If you will, so will I

I don't think that "pretty man" was a song about prince liking to be recognized or labeled as a "pretty" man. You have heard the lyrics, right? Prince is totally talking about how pretty he is... Prettyman Don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful Hey now, what's up? Aw, U know how 2 come over here starin' at a brother so hard Huh, say U what? CHORUS: If U wanna be my baby, got 2 tell me so Over competant lady, better act like U know If U wanna be my baby, come on take my hand Tell me that U wanna get with Prettyman See me up here dancin', dancin' on the flo' Got 2 think about doin' just a little mo' The way I wear my knickers around this booty tight Make a sister wanna call me up every night - hey! CHORUS Everywhere I go, people stop and stare They just wanna see me swing this pretty hair If there ever comes a time when it just won't grow I'll keep it like my brother and buy some mo' - hey! CHORUS (Tell me) (Looka here) (Do ya know) (Take my hand) (Say it!) Ooh, uh If U wanna be my baby, got (Prettyman) Ooh, Prettyman (Prettyman) {repeats} Looka here now In the early morning when I'm feeling nice I walk by the mirror and kiss it twice When it comes 2 perfume, i-it's on the shelf I get it down, if ain't nobody around I, I, I smell myself Hey, uh, Prettyman, looka here I ain't through Say I don't, uh, wait a minute Come on, band, break down I don't care about money, I buy gold by the ounce Y2K, not today, I write a check and the bank bounce "Superball" used 2 be my nickname if U ask about love No money back guarantee when I'm above Pretty man If U wanna be my baby, got 2 tell me so Over competant lady, gotta act like U know If U wanna be my baby, come on take my hand Tell me that U wanna get with the Prettyman, huh Maceo, brother, can U blow? Uh, pretty From Harlem, uh, ay, off 2 Tokyo Wait, stop, ah, go Maceo can ya, Maceo, can U blow? Hey, Prettyman Oh yeah Can I scream now? Hey, hey! Can I scream now? Hey {x6}, ohhh no! Hey, hey, hey! Hello? Who is it? Yes, this is a Prettyman Princey! He he he...

People don't respect differences unless they think there might be a damn good reason for it. That's just human nature, and it's not going to change on account of Our Hero. Prince can do whatever he wants, and often does, but if he was going to go through with the name change without giving a legitimate sounding, sane explanation, he had no place to be surprised or annoyed that the public reacted the way they did. Log off. Have a cookie. Calm down. Once you get over this outburst, you can come back. But right now, you sound like a 12 year old, throwing a temper tantrum over an imagined insult. It'll be alright. Good sweet heavens, you're older than me! [Edited 11/21/06 23:50pm] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Revolution wrote, "For those of you who don't get it...Prince was telling her in no uncertain terms to stop calling him that and call him by his
name or he was leaving on the spot." I think that's rather telling in that he would get somewhat upset by someone not calling him by his name in that just a few years previously his stance was quite in contraposition in that he didn't want people calling him by his name.

That's always been a really annoying character trait of Prince, though. The guy takes himself way too seriously, in this pompous, self-important way.
Remember how Weird Al said that Prince is the only guy to constantly refuse to let him do a parody of one of his hits? The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
