But the wonderful thing about I Would Die 4 U is that it doesn't alienate anyone, because its lyrics have that ambiguous quality. Yeah, the song is about Jesus, but because it isn't so explict in its message, you don't have to strain yourself to relate to it on a simply personal level.

Something like the TRC title track though, goddamn...

but its interesting because too me the lyrics of IWD4U are very hit you over the head. Its just general ignorance that prevents the masses from really getting it. If you don't really know about "christ" not necessarily a follower but just know what "christ" or "christianity" are supposed to be about...its right there.

Too me P has alway been in your face religeous...its just that in the last decade and a half he has lost his abilty to make infectious music that appelas to a wider audinece.

In other words that you might not think that those lyrics to TRC were overbearing if the music was more compelling. The mucsic on TRC children seems so tired and boring to me and its not the jazz thing. Because there is exciting and brilliant Jazz. The music sucked

Personal favs are The Cross and The Ladder.

I also think that Lovesexy is such a religious album.

He is really talking to God and going slightly mad.

He's lonely but he wants to believe in God.

He's recognising his place in the universe. His nothingness.

Whether it's a pretty album or not I don't know but certainly Lovesexy has some great lyrics and really we are left in no doubt that this man is feeling confused.

One minute euphoric next minute in the pit of dispair. Love, sex, isolation, connection..they are ALL in this album

One minute he sounds grown-up and adult like, the next minute he is a small child singing "God is Love, love is God, Girls and boys love God above..."

You feel very moved by this.

You see how a human being is flawed, disconnected and unhappy. You also realise that there is a madness to this work that makes it sound manic and all over the place. There is barely any continuity to it.

It is at this point that we realise Prince is a man, not a machine. And he is starting to break down. He can't churn out hit after hit.

His songs go on and on, Anna Stesia sounds like a big rant. You couldn't play that at the disco!!
Shut up already, damn.

The Love We Make
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
