It is well known that Prince has a great deal of material recorded both in music and video format that has never seen the light of day. What possible reason would Prince have for holding on 2 such material and deprive his "FANS" of this work?

Any ideas?

I can't say I feel deprived by him not releasing all of his material because I tend not to miss what I don't have if it isn't a necessity.

I suppose he records some things to share and earn a living from. Other material he records for his own enjoyment. Since he prefers living in the now, once he's done with something, I think he seldom has the urge to revisit it.

i think that's it right there.

Um...let's see...the top 5 reasons "why Prince is holding on 2 so much unreleased material"...

#5 Because it's his music and he can do with it as he sees fit.

#4 Because he wants to outdo Tupac in the most released hits after death category.

#3 Because he's waiting for all the Warner Brother exec's that know of these songs to kick the bucket.

#2 Because he knows this is just ticking off us fans and he loves it.

and the #1 reason...

Because he's forgot the combination to the vault!

Just my 2 pennies: Someone stated in a previous post that Prince lives in the moment. That's a fairly accurate statement. Once he moves forward onto another musical project, he sort of let's the old tracks die. Occasionally he does resurrect a track, but a lot of those old songs are not complete and never will be.

What puzzles me is the amount of material that he actually has COMPLETED. I get the feeling that Prince (in a musical sense) will be alive and kicking YEARS after he leaves this Earth. Whom ever he leaves in charge of his Estate, will be one busy person.

I worry that alot of that material will be lost if it's not preserved properly.
I also wonder about a "rumor" that said he had some crazy order to have everything destroyed upon his passing! omg I SO hope that is ONLY a rumor. ..so..like...is it? lol

I think we'll just have to be happy with our "unauthorized" copies of these songs lol it's unlikely that he will ever release much of this stuff. When he released the 'Crystal Ball' 3-CD set,I thought that would be the beginning of his efforts to get this music out there. It certainly didn't turn out that way.

I believe Prince said in an interview at one time that the world wasn't ready for the music or the message in the recordings he kept in the vault. I'm sure a lot of it is pretty heady stuff.

I'm asking U guys that question.

You're asking us to answer for Prince, which is impossible. If you talk to him, ask him your questions and then tell us his answers, if that's cool with Prince.

If you get the chance, tell him my opinion is that it makes more sense to release that music to people who are supporting him now, rather than people who may or may not support him (or his memory) generations from now.

Gracias.

Well, I say: The man should create a Trust that would release a 15-song CD every year for the next 100 years AFTER HIS DEATH.

Everyone would know who ruled The Earth!

I still miss the yearly regularity and the Triple CDs though.

Cheers to Prince.

hmmmm...Maybe Prince doesn't think we can handle the music cuz how society is now. Everytime Prince does something different, isn't there always conversy (i can' spell) about it. Prince might don't care so much about what ppl think of him, but Prince must care about us a whole lot to keep it away from us. Prince is protecting us from something. Like Prince is not allowing us to fall off of the edge cuz he knows what will happen if you do fall. I dunno. Just a thought.

Actually, During the 1st Celebration. I asked the tour guide how many completed cd's were in the vault with artwork, tracklisting..ready to go?? The tour guide said 35 albums with complete artwork were ready to go but many more songs exhisted that did not fit on albums.

It's natural for prolific artists to hide or cling to boatloads of unreleased material. Sometimes not satisfied, they go back and change parts or do total remixes. Im sure Prince released songs over the past couple years that he sat on since the 80s and remodeled them for today's styles. Other songs may be intended for certain occasions or maybe a concept album that hasnt reached development yet.

I agree 100%. I've said since day one that the song "3121" I believe, is from the late 80's. He updated the sound somewhat, probably wrote new lyrics. But the basic track, I beleive, is from that period. Same as "Gett Off". I think that's also from an earlier time. It sounds like his Camille period, ala Shockadelica.

He could just release some stuff on his webiste. How hard would that be? Most of us would even buy demos & rehersals of songs we already have.

Personally, I think P has a very protective side to his music not just because it's his, but because the songs are his creations; like a baby. He may not be ready for them to mature into official release-hood. Every song is a part of him - sometimes differently than most artists. His core is in his songs. I'd love to hear every single melody he's ever put together, but that seems almost like askin him his secrets.

That being said, I still hope he puts more unreleased stuff on his website, when it's up & running.
