Well we do expect a lot, but Prince himself brings this on.

He is always talking on such "Grand Scales" about how thing are going to be that we of course feel let down when things aren't so "grand".

ofcourse we Xpect 2 much from him: he is the one letting us know about albums, tour etc. & then the hour be4 release he just cancels it.

I dont expect ANYTHING from ANYBODY..I only expect what I PAY for and maybe a little honesty and respect.

Prince expects too much of himself, often having grand goals and ideas that he can't keep from telling others through his excitement at the possibility of meeting those goals - that's when his expectations then become ours, and when he doesn't fulfill them or when he moves onto something else, we feel let down. I'll take surprises over false hope anytime. How 'bout you?

Yes, I think we do expect too much from Prince sometimes. Here are my thoughts...

Firstly, some of us tend to impute OUR problems onto Prince and blame him for them. For example, many people's impatience with the NPGMC CDs leads them to blame Prince, which is often unfair.

Secondly, despite being what many have said is a genius, Prince is also a normal human being. That means he ages, he goes through bad (artistic) periods, etc. He cannot surely be expected to be perfect all the time. Why should we expect him to be?

Related to my previous point, how can we honestly judge Prince as liberally as many of us do until we have stepped into his shoes? The man has been through a hell of a life. How can we criticise him if we don't understand everything that has formed and moulded his mind. Prince DOES make grand claims. That's because he thinks big and aims high. True, he often doesn't get there but that's not important; it's the dream, the goal, that counts. Maybe we should understand these things.
