Fury - Explained I was just wondering if we could have some different takes on what this song is actually REALLY about.....
U must have heard it on the news this morning Congratulations! New star is born Sun 2 his shadow, rose 2 a thorn There ain't no fury like a woman scorned Y'all must have dug it, when u did your thang It's like a song, everybody wanna sing When the music's over, ur ears ring With a voice that's saying, 'Queen got no King" He got a message saying, u tried 2 reach him on the 'phone He didn't wanna answer cuz he's so afraid U'd probably tell him just 2 leave u alone I bet u heard he got another band They're makin' money, they're makin' plans U feel left out, but u need 2 understand Word on the street - he's still ur man Look out, here comes ur rainy day But u think you got a good reason 2 say Always in ur heart, come what may, Even though his might get broken Who's the guilty one when there ain't no judge or jury? Shadow 2 the sun, lets do the 1 Hell ain't got no fury Will this song have a happy ending? Will his heart need a-mending? What's the name? Only she knows Only the woman knows, only she knows 2 sides 2 every story One man's gloom, another man's glory Sun 2 his shadow, rose 2 a thorn Ain't no fury like a woman scorned Ain't no fury like a woman scorned No fury like a woman scorned I was wondering if it has anything to do with this: http://www.cookscorner.ne...Woman.html I'll give u my take on it after I have enough answers here that I can steal bits and pieces off..... As if Prince would know me..., that song explains a part of the end of the relation ship with my ex.

Lyrically, it seems to tell the story of a female protege who was supporte by Prince and then Prince dumps them, and he's aware she's going to mad as hell, even though underneath it all he still supports her "he's still your man".
Which ironically seems to have foretold the situation with Tamar... I know a lot of people think it is about his break-up with Mani, but she was never a new 'star' as such.

Couldn't song be a "cover" for something else
like love, relationship etc etc? "When I want to hear good music, I write it myself"

.....and FURY...could that maybe be that the woman in this case is angry cause she couldn't have a plate of decent bacon and eggs in Prince's house?

I see this as a song about his relationship with Mani towards the end. Perhaps Prince got hyperfocused on Tamar and his music and Mani felt left out. In her mind, she was telling herself that "Queen got no King" like maybe questioning whether Prince still loved her since he was spending so much time recording with Tamar. Perhaps she was extremely jealous of the closeness the two seemed to share since they had the music in common. Prince was letting her know he understood what she was feeling (You feel left out, but u need to understand, word on the street, he's still your man) but that he still cares and he is still committed to their relationship. But she was always arguing with him about it, perhaps threatening divorce, (Look out, here comes ur rainy day But u think you got a good reason 2 say, Always in ur heart, come what may, Even though his might get broken) and perhaps in the beginning she was always waiting "on the other shoe drop/ her rainy day" and he was letting her know that her words hurt him. She was the only one who could know how it was going to end, she was the one with the choice. And he was letting her know that if she did leave, while it would hurt him and be his gloom, he was letting her know that whoever she ended up with after him was a lucky person (another man's glory). Just my take on the song.

I definitely agree with Kaleidescope. That almost exactly as I would interpret this song.

I don't think "star" necessarily refers to a protegée. It could also be the new star in his life -- which is what a wife would (should) be. She's the song everybody wants to sing (how many women would love to take her place?), "when the music's over" isn't about music. It's the honeymoon -- the easy part when everything's going well. "...[A] voice that says Queen got no King" is her personal insecurities telling her he's onto something (someone) else. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yes, but couldn't it be that he's proclaiming to Mani that Temar is a hit? For me the song speaks as though he's telling Mani, start gearing up for another album/tour. Christian Zombie Vampires

While many attribute the quote to William Shakespeare, it actually comes from a play called the "The Mourning Bride" (1697) by William Congreve. The complete quote is "Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned / Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned."

This song makes me think of Mani sitting all alone in a big beautiful house full of fancy things, and there's no one to share it with. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

Money don't buy happiness. But it'll pay for the search. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I don't know what it means in terms of his life, but it's the best lyrics on the album. Prince is too direct at times, with songs that are either about "you'll never make a cheater out of me" or "this is where the party's at" but this song actually has a bit of poetry.
I like that this song tells a story and that I don't know what that story is after one listen. My Legacy

Just my take on the song. Yes agree and it sounds quite plausible to me. I don't think it's about an artist and as usual I think Prince is definitely using simple words to mask what he really means. Which is why I love his lyrics sooooo Thanx u all for your contributions! Can't wait to have some more takes on this..... Since we will never know the truth about what he really meant when he wrote this song, we could actually go on forever interpreting this song! isn't that great?!?!
