Is there a genealogy for "Gett Off"? Boris, LB any1? any1? Beuller? Beuller?
I've "heard" an outtake called Glam Slam 91, which may postdate D&P, I don't know, but it seems that Gett Off was put together from elements of other songs, or in bits and pieces. NY1 know? Question-mark edit [Edited 11/15/06 7:31am] "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

Yes you're right.
Gett Off was partly borne of Glam Slam '91 and Get off.

Glam Slam '91 was recorded in October 1990. It was a weird remix-thing that used
the music from 'Love Machine' together with the chorus from 'Glam Slam'. The lyrics were new, and later got re-used for 'Gett Off' in 1991. Apart from the title, 'Gett Off' has nothing to do with the earlier 'Get Off' track that surfaced on the NPG maxi-single (though there is a tiny sample of 'Get Off' used at one point during 'Gett Off'). 'Gett Off' was never originally intended for an album, and was recorded after the Diamonds And Pearls album had already been finished. It was released as a limited edition DJ 12" on June 7th 1991, and got such a positive response that Prince decided to squeeze it onto Diamonds And Pearls by replacing the track 'Horny Pony'.

It's a bit of a red-neck song,
in that it's geneolgy tree is basically just a straight line.
