I'm glad Borisfishpaw and BG clarified there points and got to business. Love the detail here.

I was 14 and lived in a town too far away from Urban radio. As a prince fan I was by myself until "little red corvette" hit the radio. Early 80's rnb on pop radio were lame. Barriors had yet to be broken. Prince helped with that.

The four sides of vynil released during 82/83 were my life. I funked/rocked and woooed the ladies cool

another thing to remember when putting together these kind of "what if"
albums is that certain songs replaced other ones, so they would never have
appeared on the same record.

'G-Spot' was replaced by 'Darling Nikki'
'Electric Intercourse' was replaced by 'The Beautiful Ones'

That's true. Mainly cuz of the movie. Not only was P trying to tailor songs for scenes, but he also had the producers of the film looking over his shoulder. When all was said and done and P took a grip of songs to them for them to listen to, they said that they didn't hear a single. Also, they needed a track to tie in the whole drama of The Kid's life. Thus, P left and went home to write perhaps the best track he's ever done; When Doves Cry. If it wasn't for the movie, we would have never heard heard that song. Probably cuz P never would have wrote it.

So true, and it's surprising how often the 'last minute addition' to the
album turns out to be the first single and/or and biggest hit.

"When Doves Cry" - written after the album was finished, inspired by the need
for a hit single and an overall sumation of the movie's story. It wasn't the
final addition to the album, as "Take Me With U" was squeezed on at the last
minute, after Prince decided to pull the track off the Apollonia 6 album.

"Kiss" - throwaway track originally intended for Mazerati's album. Prince
reclaimed it when he heard what David Z had done with his little demo and
added it to Parade ("Girls & Boys" was originally intended to be the lead
single)

"U Got The Look" - like "When Doves Cry", this was written with the need for
a 'hit single' in mind. Added to the album when Prince agreed to cut down
his intended triple album opus "Crystal Ball" to a double.

"Thieves In The Temple" - last minute addition to the Graffiti Bridge album.
Up until then "The Question Of U" had been planned as the lead single.

"Gett Off" - Originally intended as just a promo 12" birthday release.
"Diamonds And Pearls" had already been finished and was just about to go
into production when it was decided that they just had to squeeze this
track on there, due to the great positive DJ response to the 12" promo.

Same thing applies to other artists, for instance Bruce Springsteen: "Dancing in the Dark" was a last-minute addition to "Born in the U.S.A." because it "still needed a hitsingle".

Wasn't this also the case with Jacko's "Beat It"?

nod Yeah,I have an early script of 'Purple Rain' and it features "G-Spot" and "Electric Intercourse".This was when Vanity was still a part of the movie.
