Who should produce the new album of Prince?

I know, this probably never will happen, considering Princes' ego and his tentions for complete self control, so its a bit for fun.

My question is: who should produce his new album? which producer could bring something 'extra' to his music or better the final result?

Prince himselve of course is out of contest in this survey.. lol

My picks:

For a raw, rocky kind of thing (aka the music he delivered with Sonny Thompson and Michael Bland as a 'power-trio) i would recommend Ed Stasium (Living Colour) or Brendan 'o Brien (Pearl Jam, King's X, Matthew Sweet). I love their abilities to create a clean, 'big' rocksound, within going into bombastics.

For a freaky, hardfunking record (the new black album?) i would go for George Clinton. Maybe when George brings his weeds with him and shares them with Prince, it might help Prince to loosen up a bit, and follow his more nasty, freaky characteristics... lol

For a more intimate, reflective, acoustic album i would choose Joe Boyd (Fairport conventention, Nick Drake, REM). That guy can produce music that sounds both simple and intimate, but still has enough sophistication to overshine the idea of 'just a guy with his guitar'.

For a more experimental, surreal, art-rock kind of thing (Parade, many tracks on Dream factory) it would be nice to see Prince team up with fellows like Van Dyke Parks (The Beach boys), Tchad Blake (Radiohead, Neil Finn), Björk (her own records) or maybe even Clare Fisher. The results could go both ways: either it would turn into a complete mess and overindulgence, but i could it also lead to
Princes' more experimental songs getting more consise and direct because of the production.

A 'No' for me would be Rick Rubin. Considering Rubins' tendencies to go for a very old-fashioned, analog kind of sound it would probably turn Princes' music into 'Let love rule' part 2 (part 1 is by Lenny Kravitz).

So, those were my choices. I am curious about yours.

1st of all, explain to me what you think a producer does. Then, I'll explain to you why Prince nver will have and never really needs an outside producer.

Isnt it true that he NEVER uses an outside producer cause he wants to maintain HIS sound/& or signature?

I don't think he needs a producer so much as someone to give him the right feedback on his music, and someone who he would listen to.

Maybe the guy who did that for Paul McCartney's last--Nigel someone

He should use a host of producers to diversify his sound:
- Chemical Brothers
- Scott Storch
- Lil' Jon
- Randy Newman
- The Bomb Squad
- That guy who did the Power Rangers theme song
- Phil Spector
