The Vault, The Truth and The Rainbow Children These unfortunately are 'some' of the lesser known albums by Prince. I can play any song off of these discs and no one would recognize them. It's funny when you're younger, "Jazz heavy" stuff doesn't appeal to you. You want the head bangin Rock, Pop, or soothing, sexual R&B.
When you age you start to appreciate Jazz.  The music you rolled your eyes at, when your mother/father played them in the car or at home. You grow up eventually. Now that Prince is older, he's writing/performing more mature music. Most of Prince's music my peers here me playin, is waaay over their heads,  not the lyrics but the music itself. It takes a mature individual to really "listen" to ONA CD, or The Truth.
I realized this when I went through my mothers CD case, and I took notice to what she borrowed; "The Truth, The Vault (was in the CD player) snippets from ONA CD and TRC. Prince is older now, I think his music is aging with him. And that's a GOOD thing. So blow the dust off of The Vault, give another shot if you haven't in some years, you just might like it.

They are three of my favourite Prince CD's from the last 10 years. Just add in the Symbol album and I'm a happy man.  When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading. | |

I loved Jazz when I was younger, but ofourse I was considered 'weird' or not 'in' because I wasn't reciting 2Pac lyrics. I liked Rap back then, but one must acknowledge the roots of the music. I have to say I don't agree with you. Being young doesn't mean that you can't appreciate Jazz music. I started listening to Jazz when I was about 13 yrs. old and instantly loved it.

I liked jazz at 15(i played it in band).But as i got older the opposite has happened.I still like the "old school"jazz.
But the comtemporary stuff doesn't move me.As for THE TRUTH,i think it is one of his best albums ever,THE VAULT is ok and TRC is horrible,still can't listen to it all the way through  | |

My goodness, I thought you liked it. Guess that was someone else. I think it is a work of art. It is heavily religious, but the music  is incredible!

Jazz is something that I'm just getting into now. I've started to buy all the early Miles Davis cd's that I can get my hands on recently. But I do agree that Prince's sound has definatley moved with his fans. | |

It's kind of interesting that just as I was dipping my toes into jazz, P released these albums; I feel like I can continue to grow with Prince.
Jazz is more interesting to the people who can understand what they are listening to. Like Dizzy said, "For Musicians Only" [1956, Verve]. | |

Blue theC Yeah i think i shocked alot of peeps when i said that.I just cannot get into that album.But to each his own no right or wrong just a difference of opinion.How long you play the sax for???I played for close to ten years and then sold it after i graduated fro high school.Even now the urge to play kicks in from time to time. | |
