it's funny how the folks who ran these fanzines eventually had a falling out with Prince...

***Eileen Murton---didn't she get pissed at Prince and shut down the Controversy magazine? I think this mag made a huge mistake when they decided to become Prince's "official" fan magazine.They should have remained independent.

***Linda Everett---in the late 80s,she contributed to Controversy.But she had a bitter argument/disagreement with Prince in the early 90s."He's a real nasty person" she told me.She then sold her entire collection of albums,posters,tapes,videos,etc.

***Diana Dawkins---shortly after Prince sued Uptown,she shut down her own Prince Family newsletter.I remember calling the hotline in the late 90s and she sounded extremely bitter as she said "This will be our last newsletter".She later sold all of her Prince stuff.I wonder if she ever forgave him? LOL

Best wishes, indeed, to Eileen... Controversy was a splendid magazine, and certainly encouraged me towards getting involved when I saw adverts for the fanzine Interactive.

It's interesting reading this thread about how many clubs closed with a 'and they were so pissed off with Prince...' The copyright thing with regards the symbol and the reaction to NPS had an impact on Seven thang in Australia too, I think.

And yet, here we all are... all these years later... still intrigued by this musician... man, he MUST be good!

I'm the other Simon... never sold a bootleg in my life.

Lost a couple to some people I lent them too!... but never sold one.

Also, does anyone remember the daily email list that was circulating? Was it called PPML or something like that! That was a blast!

Yeah, I was a regular caller to The Prince Family, too. I looked forward to the newsletters like everybody else and just HAD to call in between lest I miss something important. The Prince Family Newsletter was how I hooked up with what eventually became LovesexyDC. I wrote something to the newsletter and my friend Kathy who was kinda just getting a fan group together called me. So it turned out to be a very important component in my "Prince life." There are some things about that time that still feel better than what we do on the Internet now.And yes, I DID get the "Dinner With Delores" cassette (and I still have it!)

Wow. Linda Everett. Now that is a name I haven't heard for a while. I remember hearing a recording of her rambling into someone's phone yelling about being the 'queen of paisley f***ing park' and tearing into this guy. It was so funny! He said it was her, but since I never spoke to her, I have no claim about it's authenticity but it was really funny.

David tried his best in producing the magazine (Dream Nation Ran for around 2 yrs) all by himself with help from like minded people he even did some Prince Partys which I went to and had fun even Madhouse music went along those where the days, but like Chris Dawson both where charming and owe me money for non events.


Eileen Did well on the MPLS convention of 91 (D&P) was released whilst we were in MPLS and we all had limos to take us to the Glam slam for the release party BLISS.

and whilst im here Didnt Chris Leave Controversy to set up the Revolution after an argument with Eileen?
