Which Time songs should Prince have kept for himself?

Which songs by The Time do you think prince should have kept for himself?

the ballad "girl", "777-9311"and "after hi school" are the ones i think he should have kept.

what do you think?

"girl" should have been a huge hit and is due for a remake. A lost gem like "free." and "nothing compares" was until they found it.

I basically agree with you in terms of the songs, Chronic..

at the same time, Prince's personality & Morris' personality are significantly different..
&
the "tone" of several of The Time's songs are more suited to Morris' "personna" than Prince's,
even though Prince is a better singer (& really sang most of the Time songs anyway, in 1 form or another)..

instead of keeping any songs to himself,
PRINCE SHOULD HAVE KEPT HIS EGO IN CHECK
& HE SHOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN UP THE TIME BY FIRING JAM & LEWIS.

But, like I've said here SEVERAL times before:
Prince HAD to break up the original Time lineup-
they outdid him & the Revolution (as GREAT as they were) too many times on the Controversy & 1999 tours!
& I admit this, being a bigger Prince fan at the time than I was a Time fan..

NO, it wasn't enough for him to tell Morris & the boys not to do certain dances,
NO, it wasn't enough for him to leave The Time off the poster in certain cities & venues..
NO, EGO-CENTRIC KNUCKLEHEAD Prince had to go & break up the group.

Way to go, Prince!
(knucklehead!)

When the day comes that I have that kind of money, I will
PERSONALLY
offer/give each member of the original group
1 MILLION DOLLARS each
to do 1 more show together as a group;
I'd videotape it & send it to Prince, with a note:

"why don't you stay a while, & see how it's done!"

(evil grin!)
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

I heard something like this happened when Tony Tone Toni opened for Janet Jackson. They blew her taped show off the stage and were fired!

I love Prince's background vocals especially at the end of the song. he goes for it, almost like "yea this is a prince song, here i am."

"Girl" is great but "Hi school" along with "OnedayImgonnabesomebody" is the worst The Time song out IMO, besides Prince didn't write it.

I like Rhondab's idea, "Girl" & "Gigolos Get Lonely Too"

OR he could have eventually put out versions of his own. But some songs ARE better suited for Morris. Prince knew that - ain't that why HE MADE MORRIS??? wink
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I would hate to think that Prince would have kept any of the Time's material, thus effectively silencing the group.

But the best material, if I had to choose say 5 songs, would be:

'Get It Up'
'777-9311'
'The Walk'
'Oh Baby'
'Gigolos Get Lonely Too'

This stuff just strengthens the argument, IMO, for the 80's material. He was so prolific during this time. Not just writing songs, but writing quality songs.

I'm pretty sure Gigolos is credited to Morris Day? Great song. That album totally rules even now.

PrincPDC

What is this assumption that Prince wrote ALL of the Times' music?

And who cares who performs a song? Prince (if he wrote it) chose who he wanted to perform it.

Pointless thread, no stars. razz
