Parental Advisory Labels on Prince Albums I just dont understand why there are parental advisory labels on most Prince albums, such as Graffaiti Bridge and Choas and Disorder, i think Prince says the "f-word" all of 3 times on that entire album. Even more so the Emancapation album which i can't think of any swearing or even overly sexual lyrics on that album. I just dont get why those labels are on the albums. Anyone have a theroy?

Emancipation... hmmmm... Face Down and, um..., The Human Body spring to mind, but I take your point. It probably all stems from the PR thang with good old Tipper. Once in the club it's very hard to get out.

Oh yeah that's true.... even so not worthy of a advisory imo. Your probaly right that's the only reason i could think of, I recall a Frank Zappa's instrumental album after that ordeal had an advisory stick on it... LOL.

This much is true...everything just about has this Explict Lyrics warning anymore..I personally, being a parent, can understand why they put these on there..HOWEVER my children are far from Stupid and even when a song is "edited" they can figure out what has been "cut" from songs...waste of a label sticker if you ask me Because of God..we 2 r 1~~Darren & Suzyn forever

Doesn't James Blunt's album even have it? And he only says the F word like twice through the whole cd!

I don't think there is one on my copy of The Gold Experience which is kind of funny to me

I'm sure I read somewhere that it is due to Prince that albums carry these stickers anyway, after some politicians wife heard Darling Nikki.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong cos' I really can't be bothered to go look it up. Some people are like Slinkies...

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong cos' I really can't be bothered to go look it up. You are correct. He may not be the reason...but he is one of the impetuses. What's funny is that 2 years prior, 1999 was out and had all kinds of dirrrrty lyrics on it. PR is TAME in comparison. I don't even think PR would get an advisory sticker then or now. I always wondered about that too. The song P Control would definitely deserve a sticker all on it's own. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

"explicit lyrics"
it used to be Prince just being prurience no matter if he used "4-letter" words or not

From what I've read, and from what I remember when it was happening, it WAS Darling Nikki in particular that sparked the entire Parental Advisory movement from Tipper Gore. She named that one outright - and I don't remember her naming others. Darling Nikki was the one!

Pr is tame...hell...darling nikki is a pretty tame song, at least by today's standards. I remember hearing about the whole Tipper Gore thing when I was much younger and then, when I finially heard the song, I was like, "That's it?" It's nothing, espeically compared to song lyrics today. Interestingly, my PR CD does not have a sticker on it...does anyone's?

His first to carry that sticker was the Symbol Album...I think and that was 1992. I also don't think the stickers are retro active either. Christian Zombie Vampires

Darling Niki, Erotic City, that that bit in Let's Pretend We're MArried, those were so outrageously nasty back then.
I think it's funny that people are wondering why a sticker is put on an album if fuck is only said 3 times or 2 times... only one utterance could considered explicit for a song. Until fuck becomes part of everyday talk like "hell" or "God Damn" then it will be considered explicit. In the case of Darling Niki, the image of some girl "masterbating with a magazine" in a hotel lobby, is fairly non traditionally sexually explicit. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I remember going to the wrecka stow to buy the Cream maxi-single and not being allowed to buy it because I didn't have an ID on me. OOOOH, I was steamed!
But at least their refusal to sell me that cassingle kept me from leading a corrupted life.

Only 3 times? I would assume they would put the label on an album if the word is said even once. Andy is a four letter word.
