Must have item in a Prince collection? I am steadily building up a decent Prince collection...I am only collecting the music (not clothes or other shit, just the music) and was wondering what is the absolute must have track, official or boot to have in a Prince collection.
Look forward to hearing from you all. Your friend Gavin... 10 weeks yesterday I joined NMPMC, nothing recieved, but I shall remain optimistic...where my box set & ONA?

You must have the '1999' era outtakes (songs recorded in 1982-83)...
"Extra Lovable" "Turn It Up" "Purple Music" "Do Yourself A Favor" "Moonbeam Levels" "Possessed" "Irresistible Bitch" (Prince sounds like an old man!) "Feel U Up" "No Call U" Trust me,start with those songs! [This message was edited Fri Aug 23 6:30:03 PDT 2002 by DavidEye]

You're going to get a lot of answers saying this and that..they're going to tell you about outtakes and live performances that you need.but dont listen to them. All you ever need in your Prince collection is a boot called Neon Rendezvous..and from that the only song that you need is Something In The Water. There has not been a better performance by Prince since. Tell all the other hippies to take a bath. [This message was edited Fri Aug 23 8:37:53 PDT 2002 by rdhull] "Climb in my fur."

Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

And if you're really interested in more highlights from the classic 'Purple Rain' rehearsals, the following are also essential listening:
The 22 minute rehearsal of 'The Bird' The entire 'Billy' & 'Strange Relationship' (45 minutes) The 'White Girls' jam 'The Screams Of Passion' & 'Bodyheat' rehearsal 'Feline' And strictly for laughs: 'When The Saints Go Marching In' & 'When Doves Scream' "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

I was going ot mention this--yes, the rock style Erotic City is the runner up to Something In H2o . it's funny because you can tell Prince and co. were watching Eddie Murphys Delirious by heart because in Erotic City during a part where they are goin off, Prince says "Brad, ya know what it is?" like when Eddie Murphy was imitating his dad being drunk "Lil..ya know what it is? Im drunk.." etc. "Climb in my fur."

Well, a Prince collection without all the "other shit" like picture discs, color discs, 12s, 45s, magazines with Prince covers, posters, etc. is no fun

'Dreams' is a good one to have. It's 3 discs of outtakes from '81 - ???'
Pretty much all of the essentials are there.

I to only collect the music, but i think the offical releases are the real gems. the must have in my collection are - mazarati, appollonia 6, the family, both madhouse and the one i think is just the best an offical undertaker CD. i have all these on CD plus many many more. i think that makes my collection pretty cool.

Most definitely an original, playable "The Undertaker" CD. And many of the associated artist's CDs.
