Hendrix did, by a 100 miles. Both Dez and Jesse did. Santana STILL does. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Hendrix did, by a 100 miles. Both Dez and Jesse did. Santana STILL does. Co-sign that. I watched Hendrix: Band of Gypsys last night and...well...damn. Let's just say Prince was not the first to get way down and hump a guitar onstage. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

the issue here is looking good playing the guitar right? then, if thats the criteria, lenny kravitz is indeed the sexiest thing extended to a guitar!

Seriously, just out of curiosity, is there ANYTHING u don't like about P? I mean, is he PERFECT in your eyes? Honestly? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

i love watching footage of jimi, i REALLY love watching thurston moore attack his guitars, but prince just has a natural ability for being a guitarist and a showman at the same time. it's like there's no disconnect between the two, he can't just stand there and be boring when he's playing. bless 'im.

Let's just say Prince was not the first to get way down and hump a guitar onstage. Yeah, I mean, that's not even close. P patterend his mannerisms while playing guitar after Jimi anyways. Everyone knows that. But what I think is more intersting is Dez and Jesse. The first time I saw P live in concert was on his Controversy tour. I watched Dez more than anyone else on stage. Just look at the videos that Dez are in; "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?", "Dirty Mind", "Controversy", "1999", "Little Red Corvette", he runs circles around P when it comes to looking cool while playing the guitar. And u can best believe Prince himself knew that. Why do u think P was always skipping over there to Dez, sharing the mic with him? Prince wasn't stupid. He knew that it made him look cooler by being over there with Dez. Out of all of the o.g. members of The Revolution, Dez got the most camera time. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. That's true. It's no question that P is a master showman, BUT because of that very quality, sometimes, it tends to overshadow him just playing guitar. Like I posted earlier, the coolest P gets while he's on the guitar is when he's "doing Hendrix" or when he's just standing there, playing. The perfect example of what u described is Paul Stanley of KISS. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I'd have to say Jimi because it looked like he truly felt the music- like it didn't matter if there was an audience or not. I only wish I could have witnessed it live. Same with Santana. I've seen him live, and it's like he forgets we're there. That's just . "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I agree with ya on "I Could Never Take". He looked ecstaticly happy, just swinging and skipping and grinning from ear to ear. All the while, burning it up. That section right there, more than anything, shows just how long P has been playing, and performing live. It showed years of experience, performing in front of a hostile AND loving audience. I would say that if in doubt, watch Prince's performance on WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS at the R&R Hall o' fame. That shows a man who LOVES playing and showing it off. Even the vets are watching him.
Cool is cool. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Stanley Jordan maybe...'cause even once you see him, you still can't quite comprehend how you're hearing at least 2 guitars playing when there's clearly only ONE.

Ditto for Richard Thompson (who covered "Kiss" on his 1000 Years of Popular Music tour). Me at a Richard Thompson show ----> We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think it's a good point that Prince really sells his performances when he lets loose on guitar - really pulling lots of classic guitar poses and faces. I mean, Eric Clapton is known as a guitar legend, yet last time I saw him perform on TV he just stands there and plays, which is fine, but give me Prince at the Brits anytime when he's on his knees thrashing the guitar! It's just more of a performance, even if it is all planned, that I'd rather see, even if it does take-away from the vituosity of the performance.
