Why does Prince always stop his band on the one? what's wrong with the two, three or four? when he was younger and could still dance he would stop on 2, 3 and 4. why no more?
why is it always on the one? that shit be pissing me off! why he don't give us "25 yeah" anymore? he too old to count that high? why he don't get blow jobs from the female guitar players on stage no more? he too old to "get it up"(the time). Prince neeeds to get with it, call Dr. Dre quick, and call Nelly to find out how to get it "HOT IN HERRRE!" again! " could I be... the most beautiful man in the world! plain to see, i"m the reason that God made a man!"UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN GRADUATE! VERY PRESTIGIOUS!

"ON THE ONE"
Perhaps he stops it on the ONE to show how TIGHT the band is. Stop on the ONE, no time for anything else.

He stops it on the one because that is where Prince does it. He may tell you to clap on the 2 and 4 but he tells his band to stop on the one. On the one is simply a phrase only Prince can use the way he does which is the reason why you are here analyzing it now. Why? Why is the sky so high? I mean don't think about it so hard.

Is there something better about stopping on the 2, or 3 or 4?? I mean, what's wrong with stoppin on the 1 y'all??
Help a gyrl out here... vi

He doesn't always stop on the one. It's true he usually does, but I can think of at least one example where he incorporates calls to the band stopping on the first, second, third and fourth beats.
He also arranges with the beat being dropped towards the end of the bar rather than the first beat - listen to 'It's About That Walk', or 'Saviour' for example. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Yes you can - it all depends on the time signature of the song. Fact is that Prince writes largely in 4/4 time. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Yeah, I don't remember exactly where it came from, but I remember a performance where he says: "On the one.. two times... gimme five!" or something like that.

it's just not cool to stop on the 23...people are leaving the room.

How about not stopping at all?
Will that make u happy? | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Stopping on the one is th e shit...immediate cut off from music...and then you can good god it to start it up...he is stopping on the 2,3,4, etc, he's just letting the last count/measure be known at the very end. The band already knows this several counts ago, he's just tellin people at the last minute to surprise them. Vegas...or he could be trying to actually do it on the one to make sure his band is paying attention. "Climb in my fur."

Nelly and all those wannabes need to take a grammar class and learn how to spell, for one thing.
Don't even get me started. lol

I have a tape somewhere where he stops the band on the 1, but a few in the band stop on the 1.48!
I'd hate to be in the dressing room after that show ----------------------------

Tell me about it. The only song I can think off the spot that is in 3/4 is "Insatiable". Any others?

Hmmm... "Pulse" is a subjective matter which can be attributed to whatever numbers you desire. It could be just as well 60/40 for all that matter to us all ignorant players out there.
Of course, depends on how accurately you have read your music theory. And I always skipped classes anyway, you know...

Wov, you're getting a bit too unnecessarily cheeky about this, aren't you? Well, at least I had the taste not to put "Last December" as one of my all-time favourite Prince tunes...
That's as far as I'd go with quavers.

Easy tiger!!! The "taste" you speak of allows you to put C & D in your favourite albums. I think you've been mowing the lawn too much, it's the only explanation for this total hearing loss!

Yes, but loud self-indulgent noise is always tastier than overblown choruses you know? At least to me, but what would you know? You're a drummer. You could easily be replaced with 95kbits worth of free software running on an old 486.
I liked the "Easy tiger" part though, I'll admit. Nice one.

Now I'm a little hurt, that was too cruel, way too cruel! So when your diggin' the title track from C&D and the opening Michael B fill do you think about free software and your "old 486"? All the best P albums feature live drummers,SOTT,Lovesexy,Prince,The Gold Experience without that you get Graffiti Bridge!

He stops on the one because he can't deliver the two...if NPGMC is any indication, at least...
