Is It Really Retired?

I heard in an interview a few years ago that Prince said after the millenium passed he wasn't going to sing "1999" any more. Is that true? Has he really retired that song? I really liked "1999".
I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me.
Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots.
Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

Maybe the lyrics sound a bit dated.

That song was as tired as a sled dog.

Back in 1999, it was voted the best dance song of all time by our local
radio station. Funny, I always had a hard time dancing to it.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Reports are that the song was spotted lounging in a private box at the racetracks in southern Florida.

Good for it, I say.

The point is--did Prince officially retire 1999 and stop performing it in public? confused

Actually, considering 1999 was pre-George Bush, I guess it still would be reason to celebrate.

Well you never know with Prince, but yes, he has stopped performing the song, the last time being on the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic New Year's Eve concert DVD.

Don't fret.

Everything that comes out of Prince's mouth when he's not singing is bullshit.

You'll eventually hear it live again. Possibly even at the 3121 show in Vegas.
