If you've ever seen "An Evening with Kevin Smith", you know I've got some history with His Royal Badness. Regardless, it's never interfered with my appreciation for the man's musical genius. I came of age in the Prince era, and his albums have made up a good portion of the soundtrack to my life. This track will always take me back to post-production on the original "Clerks", when I was editing the flick in the video store featured in the flick, and my long-time girlfriend was graduating from college and dumping my fat ass. Needless to say, I was devastated. But had I known that, in six months, my life was gonna change irrevocably (thanks to the Sundance Film Festival), maybe I wouldn't have burned through two copies of "The Love Symbol Album" listening to this track over and over.

But am i the only person who cringes whenever i hear this album being called,
"The Love Symbol Album" ?

Ask anyone what a 'love symbol' is they'd draw a heart, not a Prince glyph! I call it the Symbol album. Of course, if Prince ever did a second album named only by a symbol, I'd be in trouble differentiating the two...

i always just call it the symbol album or the squiggle thing album.

I know this doesn´t mean that Prince himself calls it the " Love Symbol" album but I guess if some folks at WB decided to print " ...taken from the LOVE SYMBOL.." album on the record sleeve it is at least semi-officially called that way, right ?

No matter how much we cringe, WB made that title quasi official.


I think we had a thread about this a couple of months ago where I wrote the same thing and some orger posted a pic of that cover.

I just call it the symbol album but....no, I don't cringe when I hear it reffered to as the love symbol album....I mean...why cringe? I don't get it?

When he was going by the name , I wanted him to release an album called "Prince" to confuse everyone even further.

You know what would have been really cool? An album by with a different symbol for a title, and each song was called a different symbol. Maybe they're all instrumentals...

Or how about releasing two albums on one day? One called :male: and one called :female: - wait, those aren't emoticons? Man, they should be...

That is surprising because I just bought Kevin's new dvd "evening with ks part 2 evening harder"

well he talked about Prince again and more or less ripped on him again. He said that the footage he shot for Prince was for a JW Recuriting Video He also said Prince was pissed at the first KS dvd and wanted to see if he signed a agreement to not talk. Also Prince kinda talked about KS in his Entertainment Tonight Magazine article.
