Purple Rain Tour The Purple Rain Tour was one of the most successful tours to that point. Lasting 90 scheduled concerts, in 15,000-20,000 capacity arena’s, in 32 cities, being seen by 1.75 million people in the US and Canada and grossing approximately $30 million. The original idea was that this was going to be a world tour, but because of Prince being fed up with touring that idea was abandoned. As a replacement he broadcasted the March 30th, 1985 concert from Syracuse live in Europe, where it was seen by approximately 12-15 million people. That show was also released on video.

Wow, thanks for the info. But wasn't the most successful tour the Jackson's "Victory" tour? It toured USA and Canada. It only played 55 dates. How much were tickets to a PR show? I know tickets to a Victory show were 30 bucks a pop--sold in bundles of four for $120. Did PR sell more? I think the biggest stadium the Jacksons played was JFK Stadium in Philidelphia and that place sold out and the capacity was 60 thousand. The smallest was 26 thousand in Denver. (I know because I had to do a report on Michael Jackson/Jacksons concerts because someone else picked Prince before me.) I have an article that says MJ and his bros grossed about $40-60 million dollars.
What else can you tell me about Prince's tour? I'd love to know. PR is one of my fave tours. I love learning statistics about Prince and stuff like that. [Edited 11/2/06 21:35pm] I love a Man who:

he did say it was "one of the most successful tours" but you know i am not even sure what that means. that statement can be manipulated to mean different things, what is "success"? total tickets sold? most sold out shows? most money? most money per show? it is like when the makers of the Blair witch project say it is the most profitable movie ever... well maybe the biggest % made over original cost but not the most earned over cost. | |
