A couple of other official mixes not on Boris' post:

Beautiful (extended club mix) (from the UK 12" single "The most beautiful girl in the world")
Beautiful beats (from the same UK 12")
Brian's mix (from the US promo for "The most beautiful girl in the world")
Thieves in the temple part II (b-side to the US 45 "Thieves in the temple", actually not extended because it only clocks in at a little over a minute)
Somebody's somebody (Ultrafantasy edit) (from the US 12" promo)
The greatest romance ever sold (Jason Nevins romance beats) (from the US double 12")

What would be nice is one of those singles boxsets.... You know the ones, there's quite a few, the ABBA, The Clash, Blondie, Duran Duran ones spring to mind.

For all the WB singles 1978-1993, that would be a really nice item.

Exactly. Another thing to consider is that even though Prince released an album every year, the timed release of the singles/b-sides made the time between albums seem even SHORTER eek biggrin

Back in the 80's and early 90's you really didn't have to wait long to hear some new Prince music.
[Edited 11/3/06 16:07pm]

Both of you guys are exactly right. An album held about 45 minutes of music. A long song or two on the album was cool but it was best to get as many songs as possible into the 45 minute time length.

Also, it was great to see how a 12 Inch was going to differ from the album version. Not to mention getting a B Side that wasn't on the album as an added bonus.

No. Exteneded versions are mostly to sell more records to make money on a song that's beeen previously released, purely a money making scheme for the record companies. I can't believe so many people fall for it remember the words to all that glitters ain't gold? everybody wants to sell what's already been sold! you making Warner Bro. RICHER and Prince ain't getting a dime.
[Edited 11/4/06 10:15am]

Wrong. 12 Inches started during the disco era because people were jammin' on the dance floors and didn't want the songs to end so soon when they were really starting to get into them.

A lot of the earlier 12 Inches during the disco era didn't really sound much different than the original version but they had longer intros and breakdowns. Not only did this keep the groove going longer for people but it also gave the DJs longer intros and breakdowns to mix and blend the songs together. The longer the breakdown, the better the mix. Some 12 Inches were strictly for promotional use only.

how are they fake when i have them?

Because they were never officially released by Prince and they are not
ottakes either. They were made up by fans... hence they are "fakes".

Boris-
You know that RARELY do you and I disagree, and I think we both completely respect each other's knowledge of Prince stuff, but on this one issue I can conclusively say that there IS an extended version of 17 Days that exists but was never released (recorded on Sunday January 8, 1984 in studio 3 at Sunset Sound). It isn't a fan made remix, and it isn't just a longer edit of the song. It is a longer version that contains additional lyrics. For example, at 6:07 on that version, Brenda has a passage where she says the following “No more will I accept your sadistic macho attitude toward my womanhood” and more of a speech that sounds like something out of Computer Blue, but that is a story for another post.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Yes, I am 100% sure. Check your outtake at that time and see if there is a Brenda speech. If there is, it is real, if not, it is fake.

I always thought the extended version of Pop Life should have been on the ablum, i would have even called the album Pop Life, and finished the album off w/ that song. I think i would be just bad ass to end the album with the line "So, what's the matter with your life"?

Yes, I'm aware of that, but this REAL extended version of '17 Days' is NOT
circulating. However there is a fan made 'extended version' out there doing the
rounds which is often touted as being genuine. I wanted to avoid any confusion,
as the only 'extended version' people have is a fake.

I was going through Boris' list comparing what I have (and still need) and I have these others that I didn't see on the list(s):

The Beautiful Experience (The Most Beautiful Girl in the World):
Beautiful 5:55 (probably the same as your extend club mix?)
Staxowax 5:14
Mustang Mix 6:19
Flutestramental 3:35
Sexy Staxaphone and Guitar 3:53
Mustang Instrumental 3:26

Eye Hate U
Eye Hate U (7" Edit) 4:27 (from the Eye Hate U Maxi Single)
Eye Hate U (Extended Remix) 6:17 (on the Rock & Roll is Alive! single, the Maxi Single & TGE US promo vinyl)
Eye Hate U (Quiet Night Mix) 3:56 (from the Maxi Single & TGE US promo vinyl)
Eye Hate U (single version w/guitar solo) 4:25 (TGE US promo vinyl)
Eye Hate U (single version w/o guitar solo) 3:46 (TGE US promo vinyl)

^ I don't know if the last two count, but they are included on the "remixes" side of the vinyl.

On the 12" double vinyl for TGRES and it has these which have not yet been mentioned:
Radio Edit featuring Eve 4:32
Neptunes Remix Edit featuring Q-Tip 5:08
Jason Nevins Remix Edit 3:36

^^(maybe these don't count since they're edits?)

I also have this weird "Ultra Rare 12" Mixes" double vinyl that lists:
Le Grind (extended version)
I Wanna Be Your Lover (extended version)
Dirty Mind (extended version)

^^^I'm guessing these are "fan" remixes, but since I don't have a record player I can't listen to them & thus have no idea how long they are or what they sound like. Does anyone have any info about those?

cool

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Yes, my list only contained the extended remixes, so no single edits were
included (only the longest mastermix of each version). Maybe I should re-post
the list to include ALL the officially released versions.

The "Ultra Rare 12" Mixes" record is a bootleg. So everything on it is either
fake or mislabelled

The "Ultra Rare 12" Mixes" record is a bootleg. So everything on it is either
fake or mislabelled

Yes, I figured as much...have you heard those versions? Are they really bad? lol
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Little Red Corvette dance mix is better than the album version. The Dance mix shoulda been on the 1999 album. And such song like Automatic and DMSR should have been cut shorter.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.
