Just looking at the Pod categories I have for P and he seems to have done a huge variety of Funk, I know JB took funk to a whole 'nother level and his funk was part of Black history and empowerment thus making his Funk soooo much more important. However in terms of just the music our man seems to have covered so many avenues of the Genere, he may well have borrowed heavily from JB and Sly but i think his Funk has many, many more dimensions and above all else gets yo booty shakin in all directions!.

James Brown is one of the inventors of funk, so your question is a bit blasphemous. I think it´s a generational thing...I prefer Prince over James but then again, I grew up listening to Prince and didn´t really care whether he borrowed from James and Sly because I didn´t really know their music. I was more into the MPLS sound and purple funk of the 80´s and couldn´t care less about JB and all of them but an old school funk fan might wanna slap me for saying this.

So, all in all, I prefer Prince because I can relate much better to his music and he´s more diverse.

Your funk licence should be revoked for even thinking about this let alone creating this thread

James Brown is funkier, Prince is more complete.

James Brown is 100% funk; that's all he does (well with a bit of soul thrown in). Prince does funk alongside many other categories, therefore he is not 100% funk. Therefore JB is funkier. But really it is like saying, what is funkier, an apple or an orange?

James Brown is funkier, but Prince is much more thank funky. It takes a realy genius to get away with killing squirrels.

In my opinion it's a pointless question. To answer it directly I would agree with metal orange and say JB is funkier. But when I give my answer my heart drops because in my opinion it's missing the point about what Prince is all about. I mean if your going to grow some roots grow it from the best and that what he did. Stevie, Sly and the family Stone, George Clinton, JB, Jimi to name a few. But what Prince did was amazing he blended all of them into a new funk and the sound was all his own. So in the end the answer is JB for me but no one can come close the rays of this man, the one and only Prince. He's taken it higher. Funkier is one petal on this man's flower, what about all rest?

I love them both but I'd have 2 say the FUNK that we KNOW today was invented by Bootsy when he was with James Brown.

James Brown was the Baddest MF in the business back in the day,Prince has stated many time how JB was his idol coming up. I don't think JB was as versitile as Prince musically so I will say Yes.
