Two Questions prompted by 3121 Las Vegas So I have two questions about the 3121 Las Vegas announcement:
----- After months of speculation, it’s official. Prince’s 3121 and 3121 Jazz Cuisine open Nov. 10 at Rio in Las Vegas. Here’s what visitors can expect: Wednesdays: Prince Presents, featuring various artists TBA (friends of Prince and special guests). Ticket prices begin at $31.21. Thursdays: 3121 Latin Libido Night. $31.21 cover. Fridays and Saturdays: Prince Live. Tickets are $125. Tickets will be available at the Rio ticket office and through Ticketmaster beginning later this week. A Vegas Weekend trip, must save money. 3121 Jazz Cuisine will open daily at 5 p.m., featuring a menu created by Executive Chef Lena Morgan. ----- 1. Is Prince still a Jehovahs Witness? A "Latin Labido Night" doesn't exactly sound like it fits with those beliefs? Wonder what it is! 2. It is over 21s only because it is a nightclub. Was wondering what age Americans have to be to vote as I assume it is 18 right? Seems pretty unfair that you can vote, you can die for your country but you can't go into a nightclub, drink a beer and see Prince play live! (I am British BTW, hence the question). 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything. | |

1. As faar as I know Price IS still a Jehovah's Witness.
2. We don't have to be 21 to see Prince "Live", it's 18 and only in Vegas and he won't be there long. | |

I heard that for $312 u get tickets and dinner. Sounds like a false report as its not been stated anywhere. | |

Jesus Christ!!! Does anyone here NOT spew vague generalizations about Prince and his faith? Prince is Jehovahs Witness. He's not a monk, he's not a nun, he is not a zombie. Listen to ANY of his albums of the last 5-8 years and they are still dripping with sex. He doesn't cuss (much), he doesn't celebrate holidays, and he loves Jesus. Why is everybody still tripping over this? He's the same fucking dude! He changed less from 1996-2006 than he did from 1986-1996, yet a ton of people at this(who claim to be open minded) constantly let slip their ignorance and bias towards a religion that they don't know a lot about. The Latin night isn't connected with Prince at all, Club Rio has had that event for awhile.
As for the VIP package, it has been reported a few places but maybe the restaurant won't be ready in time for the first weekend. It's a nightclub in a casino, both of which you have to be at least 21 to enter (unless passing thru for the hotel...) As for the fairness of it, that's a whole 'nother thread... 1. Apparently the Latin Libido Night has been going at the Rio for sometime already, it doesn't really have anything to do with Prince. As for being a JW, Prince never officially announced he ever was one so don't expect an official announcement if/whenever he ceases to be one either! It is presumed he is still a JW but no one ever knows to what extent he follows the rules and regulations of that faith, so if he ever breaks some rules whether that means he is still JW or not, only he knows.
2. Actually, it does seem to be 21 and over for the club. Info: http://vegas.com/nightclu...index.html Americans are very funny about alcohol. I am from the UK and even though the last time I was in the USA my girlfriend and I were 27, we still had to show our passports to be let in a club and be allowed to drink! It does seem bonkers you can vote even though your first drunken experience might be 3 years away! It's just a case of different rules. For instance, the sexual age of consent in the USA is I think 18 whereas over here it is 16, so I guess they look down on us as a load of sexual deviants... | |

1. I have friends and relatives who are JWs and according to thier rules he not a practicing JW. I mean if he breaks some of their cardinal rules on occasion does that make his a real JW. I agree with metal orange that he knows 4 sure. From my angle who cares?! With 3121 Vegas starting it's the music thats center stage for me not his personal beliefs.
2. The U.S. if definitely a practicing contradictino in terms of its values. So if the club is 21 and over I am sure it has something to do with the establishment not P himself, just conjecture. During Musicology it appeared he took great pride in children participating and such. As far as the voting issue is concerned, yes it's wierd to be able to elect someone and not down a pint of beer. | |

Yeah, but the second he puts his seal on it, "3121 Latin Libido Night", takes on new meaning and opens itself up to criticism. Not just because he's a JW but because he's not latino. Many may not care but other's may feel that it's exploitave. The Latino community still has a long way to go in overcoming stereotypes so it's likely that some will have something to say about this. Maybe not.
If he's got enough pull to insist that certain music isn't played in a club when he's there, he could insist that a name be changed to something more suitable, before he puts his stamp on it. There are so many sexier and more sophisticated alliterations for "Latino", than libido. But whatever. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify | |

I took Latin for 2 years in high school. I understand it somewhat. Who cares if it is called that? As long as it is all fun and games, it should be great fun! But the age thing really does suck and blow. | |

As far as I can see there isn't anything wrong with the word "libido". It just means sex drive. Last time I checked it wasn't a sin to have a sex drive!
God created us and gave us all a sex drive for a reason. It's fun to use, try it sometime! [Edited 11/2/06 17:42pm] | |

There is nothing wrong with it and if the club were named Libido it would probably offend very few.

The same forces that made sure that the "Frito Bandito" was removed from the market so Latinos were not viewed as thieves, may have a problem with this. The may not. You never know. I'm not an activist but I don't criticize those that are. If it weren't for these ones, there would be many more negative stereotypes out there. This isn't a Latin thing, or an Asian thing or African American.... this applies to every ethnicity that exists, even yours, whatever that is. It shouldn't always be about race but it's a reality in the world we live in. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify | |

First of all the tone of your response is aggressive without any need. I lurk on Prince.org from time to time because I have a life away from Prince. I may not have posted as many times as you but that does not in any way give you a monopoly over all viewpoints Prince-wise. I am entitled to ask a simple question without fear of flame from anyone including you. I respect your opinions now kindly respect mine. Over the last few years I have seen you do this to quite a few people (including me once). You are not the ultimate authority on all things Prince. Now do me the courtesy of READING my response below... I am interested to know whether Prince is still a JW because IMHO it has affected his music and his approach to life in ways that *I* do not like. For *me* it was better when Prince was "spiritual" like during the Lovesexy era. He subscribed to no particular theological doctrine and promoted the idea that sexuality and spirituality can comfortably co-exist. This approach was *inclusive* regardless of sexual preference and beliefs. The JWs would not be comfortable with Prince's approach during that era. Many religions by their nature are *exclusive*. Many religions claim to hold the one true route to God and declare that all other religions are false. *I* find this arrogance extremely offputting. The JWs are one such religion and Prince is voicing similar beliefs in his work over the last 10 years. For me the world of Prince was better before he dabbled (or immersed) with the JWs. It's my opinion so please respect that just as I would respect yours... 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' P.S. Don't ever assume I don't know a lot about a subject. Again your approach is arrogant beyond belief. Quite frankly Skywalker who the hell do you think you are? For all you knew I was a devout JW who was asking the question because I was worried he was no longer following the same religion as me! P.P.S. I am not a JW as my earlier post obviously indicates. I have nothing particularly against any religious group as long as they respect others beliefs and do not look down on them. P.P.P.S. And stop posting all your responses in BOLD just so you can stand out. Again you demonstrate your arrogance that your voice and thoughts are more valid than other people around here! There is no reason why Prince should not be, but I appreciate the question.
Each Jehovah's Witness has his or her individual conscience. Of course, if an action blatantly violates Biblical principles (Adultery, Fornication, Drug-taking etc) there would be a problem. However, on other issues individual decision-making is involved. It would be a conscience matter whether one of Jehovah's Witnesses would operate a 21 and over nightclub in the first place. I hope that helps. | |

But I will say, it's one thing to say something of yourself. Even then, it's not always appreciated by your community, but for someone else to promote this stereotype... It's now 2006 and the African American male is still seen by many as a sexual creature. Not sensual, but sexual. This is only now starting to change...in small ways. Nothing wrong with sexuality but when that's all you see in the media and that's all that's promoted as if this race of man is little more than that sexual creature... We can go on and on about this one, about sexual stereotypes and the races that are trying to shake them but that's a different thread. The stereotype of the African American male comes from back in history when the African lands were seen as the 'dark continent' and the men there achieved mythical status seen as primeval savages driven by the most basic urges. Just propaganda by the then white civilised world as an excuse to plunder the land, attempt to 'civilise' it and take slaves. So I can see how that 'sexual creature' has negative connotations. However I think there are positive stereotypes as well as negative, and all I'm saying is the 'sensual nature' one of Latin types is a positive one. Heck, think of stereotypical figures you get hotties Antonia Banderas and Jennifer Lopez. Now think of stereotypical figures for the English, you get bad-teeth ones like Prince Charles and for the females dumb types attempting to have class like Victoria Beckham! See, with that I'd rather be onboard with the Latin stereotype! | |

See, with that I'd rather be onboard with the Latin stereotype! Check out Sarah Baartman. They say she had this "gift" of Libido also. Look what it did for her. She inspired the belief that African/African American women were overtly sexual and overly sexed creatures. Of course these myths all came from sexual feelings that were projected onto her...feelings that she stirred. She also inspired this thing long before Beyonce and J-Lo were on the scene. Sex is what sells today, so libido will get you the silent pat on the back and many won't complain, but this is very different than calling someone a latin beauty. Libido is a negative stereotype, it's a double edged sword...you're good for one thing but not fit for another. Anything that boxes someone in based on prejudice, is a negative.
