I don't like the overall concept of rave or chaos and disorder. Rave from the opening line is just coming from all over the place. The one exception is pretty man which I like. C and Disorder is hard for me to tolerate since it's obvious that P didn't put any heart into it and it was just a contractual obligation. But for an side the song God is hard for me to listen to. One time my fried and I were at a diner and we looked hard for prince in the jukebox and we saw and played God, This was in my early years and as song got louder and screaming started I sunk in my booth seat. It was bad.

people always say prince just tossed C&D out with no thought or care. it's just not true. hate it if you want, but underestimate it at your own risk.*

*except for the last two songs, cuz those raps are inexcusable! lol

I actually rocked out to it when it was first released. I think I lost interest because Emancipation came right behind it. By the next year I lost total interest in both of these albums and was already looking forward to Crystal Ball/The Truth.
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Sorry Anx, I respect your posts and look for them quite often. I usually agree with you, but C and D has F/U all over it. I can sense Prince's lack of interest in the entire package. I'll give it another listen just 4 U but it's like taking medicine for me. Keep them posts coming biggrin

i think he did his best to throw a wrench in the marketability of that album, but i think within the ugly packaging and cracked-out promotional campaign (which i found VERY amusing, between his catty TV apperances and seussical videos from that album) were a lot of very heartfelt songs and some really fun musical ideas. and come on, now...at the very least, 'i like it there' is a great rock song.

Emanci-fuckin-pation.

doody

I like about 4 songs total out of that hot pile of garbage.

That's the only one I will go out of my way to NOT listen to. Others, like C&D, D&P, or Musicology don't get steady rotation but I don't actively dislike them.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

yeah, don't bother. I've tried that myself, a couple of times, and I still don't like it. One album out of what--about 40--isn't too bad. (But girl, I cannot believe you don't like Lovesexy! When I first got it I was like "it's okay" but now it's top 5! Have you seen the Lovesexy concert footage--once I saw that it was all over. yes

i don't like anything off of it. i remember reading about what other fans were saying about it, as well as all the hype ol' boy was pushing about it..."it's the album i was born to make!" and all that.

i found a copy at the local library, checked it out and gave it a listen. all 3 discs...never again.

it's been driven into the ground, so i can't stand to hear it anymore.

I said that about "Little Red Corvette"! If I hear that song at one more party, wedding, [bar mitvah],...etc. blowup
Damn! It's the 2nd thing a DJ reaches for after, "1999" when U request Prince!

for 1999 it's gotten to the point where i can't stand the first 3 tracks on it. i always listen to it from "let's pretend we're married" onwards.

New Power Soul -- i've probably listened to it no more than 5 times
i'd rather hear "Come On" live than risk hearing any other songs on that CD

Co-sign to both of you, and I'd also add LGC to the list too. (I still don't mind the extended version though...)

i'm TOTALLY the same way. overkill has sucked any enjoyment i could get outta those first three songs, though the LRC remix is still kinda fun when i'm in the mood for it.

Easy... the rainbow children

Some people might say that Prince is trying a new, more organic sound on this record, the truth is: Prince really sounds detached, lost in the message he is trying to deliver, the music might sound organic, but thats a different thing then 'soulfull'... dogmatic thinking kills common sense, emotions and intuition, its that that makes this album unbearable to listen to.
