Are Prince fanatics just more highly intelligent?

Honest, not to put anyone else down, but I seem to find the people who truly enjoy Prince's music to the utmost also seem to have a higher intelligence level than those who just can't understand him. The people I've met who can't seem to understand Prince's music also have the trait of tunnel vision in life, they are not open minded about a lot of things. They feel music, as well as other things, should just be a certain way. I find my friends and people I know who really love Prince seem to have a bit of a higher intelligence, a bit more knowledgeable about life and what evolves around us. They are able to process data that is a bit more avante garde, complex and different. That's just my take on it, I may be totally incorrect in my assessment though. Is it the way people process music, or is it just personal taste?

Oh, I was thinking that everyone is just bored, and just being amusing.
When I first joined The Org and NPGMC earlier this year, everything seemed more interesting.

I don't think U can necessarily go by what's posted on here. (I read all the way thru before posting) I agree with the person who said that lately people just seem bored. I like when a good discussion gets going....

I think that for the most part, most Prince fans are open to new musical ideas and genres; as Prince changes, so do we- and we discover similar things along the way.

Some of the posters annoy me sometimes because of their lack of "vision". They proclaim their undying love to one man, without acknowledging anyone else- which seems UNintelligent and close-minded. disbelief
Others, because of their unwillingness to admit that they don't know something. If I don't know, I don't post on the topic.

I think forums such as these are about sharing in a common interest, and we Prince fans often show each other that we can be intelligent. nod

I also agree that it is important not to become closed minded from other artists if one is an avid Prince fan. I love music universally and really have to stay conscious of my hard core love for Prince and his music. To keep it in check so to speak because there IS so much good stuff out there. (However, I am going through another period of non-stop Prince listening right now) I would have to offer that I also tend to think that Prince people are very intelligent--AND COMPLICATED.

I truly believe that Prince fans do have a different mindset than others, but please don't think that everyone who post here is a real Prince fan, some are just on the net to get attention they can't get in the outside world. I also am a bit skeptical about kids who have jumped on the boat since the invention of the internet they're a whole different breed than the diehards who are mostly professional career people and have a genuine knowledge of Prince's music since the 80's.

Have to agree there too. I adore Prince but have never had a friend who could do more than tolerate him. All the Prince fans I've met have never been the kind of people I'd be friends with, and I value intelligence and broad-mindedness pretty high.

More intelligent...No.

However, I do find them to be more open minded and liberal. I think Prince's music lends itself to that, simply because of the subject matter he sings about. I also find the fans to have more of an ecclectic taste in music as well.

In a forum where race and homophobia continues to rear its ugly head, openminded and liberal are words that do not enter my head about most Prince fans here. Plus, openminded would infer that people are willing to just let Prince 'be' and not want to dictate his every fuckin' move.

I don't know about intelligence, but some of the orgers are hillarious and have me rolling on the floor in laughter. It takes a special level of creativity and sharpness for wit like that.

I've never considered myself more intelligent but perhaps more musically intelligent than others. To be continuously satisfied with his artistic output over the last 30 years has made me a fan of just about everything he does. Then there is someone I work with who loves Prince but she's more like a Purple Rain fan from a long time ago. She might look at me wierd if I try to have a deep conversation about the meaning of Elephants and Flowers. Prince attracts all kinds, and a very diverse audience. Then there are the haters. But we won't go into that.

Also let's consider that many of the ugliness that rears it's head over here...I am not even certain these are Prince Fans as there doesn't seem to be that many on the org. IMO. I still hold my opinion that his music and lyrical content influence how people think about things...and I tend to think it's in a more progressing and liberal way of thinking. Can't really say that about half of the bands out there these days or even before when he was big.

I disagree with your definition of openmindedness when it comes to fans wanting to dictate his moves. I think it's pretty fair to say that even the mosst open minded folks here are tired of his antics and are not that impressed with how he handled 3121, for example.

Fair enough but as an openminded individual, I have no idea why Prince handled 3121 the way he did and because I do not know, because he is not saying himself, I don't really think about it one way or the other. The guy was going through a divorce and that amy have affected the way he was/is doing things. I just feel it's none of our business and as people who supposedly give a damn about the guy, he deserves respect.
