I love Discs 1 and 2, but Disc 3 was just too weak because of the experimental, techno-feel of some of the songs. I still believe the second disc of Emancipation would've been a big seller for Prince at that time because he outdid himself with every song on that disc. But u gotta love Emancipation for what it is, that's important!

I just got this album - I've listened to it once but at the time I was mostly checking for skips to make sure it was OK. I should really hear it again smile Since I only remember some of the songs very well. I was just thinking about that today. I like it quite a bit from what I remember.

I think it is all about Disc II. Lots of romatic songs on that CD.

I loove that ablumn! some the great tracks on there... "friend, lover, sister, mother/wife" and "the love we make" are some the greastest ballads EVER imo.

Good album. It takes a long time to properly absorb, but there's plenty of good material on there. There's some stuff I could do without, but that's par for the course with 3 discs worth of material.

Still, there are some true gems here:

Sex in the Summer
Soul Sanctuary
Dreamin' About U
Joint 2 Joint
The Love We Make

J2J in particular is a standout track - the boy found a great feeling on that song.

I'm new to the org and having some trouble posting at times. So, what I meant to initially post was not just a title. hee hee.
I wanted to say first of all that my friend gave me the Emancipation set this weekend, and I think it's incredible. Probably some of the best stuff I've heard from Prince. It will definitely have some of my favorite songs.
The other thing I wanted to ask is that I was under the impression Prince had a negative idea about artists doing the work of other artists. I read in an Entertainment magazine about a year ago something he said about the Goo Goo Dolls and artists should do their own songs. But he did at least 3 on Emancipation that weren't his (an my opinion is he did them much better than the originals). Is this just Prince being his contraditory self?

I think Prince was referring to ownership of their own work, not that they shouldn't do covers. In other words, Paul McCartney doesn't own his Beatles songs, he wrote them, but the record company owned them (and later Micheal Jackson for a while). Prince doesn't own much of the stuff he recorded at WB, they own it.

Love it. But over the years I'm kinda tired of all the love songs on the 3 discs now. I like the funk on disc 3 the most lately. Dreamin' About U still remains a masterpiece though.

I like the songs on disc 3, but it doesn't hold together for me like the first 2 discs do.

I wish it had been more experimental & more pure dance. So 1 could be pop, 2 could be love, and 3 could be future/dance (ie a representation of emancipation).

Sounds good to me. Maybe you could advise his royal purpleness.

Really.....I feel it's underated. Love just about everything thing on it except for Da da daa (HORRIBLE!!!!!). The plan should not have been on there (just a filler and fits more on the kama sutra), should of put "goodbye" there instead.

Emancipation has some of Prince's best work ever. Not just his best of the 90's, but some of his best songs EVER.

It does have its filler tracks, but it's still a great album.

When viewed as the album he was born to make, it sucks. But as just another Prince album, it's great.

this is my least favorite prince album of all time. words are inadequate to convey how much i dislike it. barf
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Me too. Not every single song, but there are some great ones.
