yeah, and he did the 'rave until the year 2000' NYE whateverthatwas, too. since the TRC days, however, i harbor strong doubts that mr. "time is a trick" will be celebrating any new years in the near future. but hey, hope is free.

If they don't recognise the holiday, then it is just any other ordinary day and therefore ripe for performing on. Actually, avoiding specifically playing on New Year's eve would be a way of recognising the holiday! Oh, and Prince played on New Year's eve in 1987 too.

wouldn't 3121 mirrored be 12/13 instead of 12/31?

Prince has not been a JW that long but likely was studying during that time since his mother was one.
And new year's eve is not something a JW would avoid just for the fact of it being called a celebration or holiday. Most other holidays have origins with pagan customs is the reason they are avoided. The only issue a JW would have regarding new year's is getting caught up in the spirit of heavy drinking and getting intoxicated which is common at a new year's eve party. So for that reason many JW's may not 'party' at that time just because of their own personal safeguards. And others have no problem going out on that night while being responsible. But as far as the organization of JW's as a whole, there's nothing scripturally against the act of getting together at new year's itself. [Edited 10/30/06 7:50am] [Edited 10/30/06 7:51am]

Drink heavily is not a very good description to define.
Some people can drink 2-3 beers or mixed drinks have no more effect on them than someone who drinks a half a beer. It's not that JW's are not allowed to something. They are allowed to do whatever they want as they have free will like any other human. It's just that somethings the Bible says will have a consequence if done. What they do is try to follow the counsel in the Bible and numerous times the Bible clearly states to not consume TOO much alcohol or get involved in drinking matches. So each person has to determine what is too much. But typically drinking just to get a buzz, getting drunk on purpose, etc is generally regarded as excessive and would be frowned upon and if done regularly could lead to more serious issues. Some JW's don't drink at all out of personal preference like anyone else. Some like to have a drink or two after work every day with friends. It can't be generalized. [Edited 10/30/06 9:03am]
