3121 - Thank you for talkin to me africa

I to, like many here have subscribed to the notion that the track 3121 shares many musical similarities with days of wild. however, today i was listening to sly stones 'there's a riot goin on' album and it struck me that 3121 has much musically in comon with the track 'thank u for talkin to me africa'. The bass, the sound of the drums, even the the phrasing and style of sly's singing are all echoed in princes song. Anybody else noticed this?

There's nothing new under the sun, I don't understand why people are surprised if one song eventually sounds like something else.

did i say i was suprised? did i claim that all princes music is original and devoid of any other musical influence? On the contarary, comparisons in music are something i enjoy to seek. i love trying to break down and work out where an artist got and idea from, is all part of the fun.

Good observation. I did a thread re: John Legend's Save Room and they dismissed it as stolen from Stormy somehow oblivious to the fact that the list of Prince tunes that borrow is quite long. Btw 3121 is too funky and it dosent get its props. I dont even think alot of people feel it.

Are you sure there is NOTHING new? How can you be certain?

cause music has become so dense and broad that its almost impossible to be creative
in order for a person to be creative now
he has to go to the past
and everyones doin that so soon that won't be new either

I hear it. There is soooo much of Sly's music in P's sound.
