If you met Prince and he was a mean bastard.

I met Samuel L. Jackass in New York and he was a mean bastard. If you met Prince and he was a mean bastard, would you still love him and post to the forum and buy his music or would you put him on the list of people who can kiss your ass...twice.

Assuming he didn't kick my dog or something, it really wouldn't surprise me. I don't listen to Prince cause I think he's such a great guy.

On the flip side I met a celebrity a few years ago who could not have been a nicer guy. But, I've never really been into his work, and that hasn't changed just cause he was a cool guy.

This is why a lot of people pass up sudden opportunities and such to meet their favourite celebs. If you meet them it can ruin the fantasy or your minds idea of what they are like. If I had another opportunity to meet Prince I don't think I could pass it up this time, but there is a part of me that doesn't want to meet him...I mean I don't want my minds image or intrigue of him ruined. wink
He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...batting eyes

To be honest, I don't think I would like Prince much if I met him. We don't have a lot in common. I love him as a musician, but that's really about all. He seems sweet and caring at times, but most of the time, he seems self-centered and distant and too stuck on religion for my liking.

I feel ya...there are people I would like to meet but man if they are an a$$ to me I will be so pissed. I don't want to lose that image I have and plus I have bought so much memorabilia and it would be hard for me to keep it up.

Feel that way too -- as a fan and a musician there's a whole lot of stuff I would want to ask him but 10 times out of 10 if I did get to meet him it would be for one red hot second and I wouldn't get answers anyway so I guess it's like you said better you don't know. What you don't know can't kill the perception you have.

People are people. That's all you should expect of them. If you have preconceived ideals about anyone and it means more to you to hold onto them, then don't meet these people 'cause no one lives up to them.

My experience has been that people have been way cooler than their public images. And since I'm human too, yes it does impact my regard for them...it's only natural. When you like a person, you make the extra effort.

I was in Manhattan just walking down the street and there he was standing right next to me - just waiting at the light to cross the street. I tried to speak and he just yelled.."I'M ON THE PHONE!!" in the key of mean bastard. He could have even waved his finger and pointed to his ear. I can take a mean bastard hint. He apparently had one of those tiny mean bastard earpieces that fit into a mean bastard's ear so I couldn't tell that he was having a mean bastard conversation. Or perhaps he's really a nice person who was just having a mean bastard day.
But I'll save that for the Samuel L Jackass forum.

BTW I have met alot of celebs just chilling in NY and most of them are quite nice.

He could have at least said "I'M ON THE MOTHERFUCKING PHONE, MOTHERFUCKER!".

Then you'd have been called a motherfucker by Samuel L. Jackson! Oh well, maybe next time.

Well, I can imagine that it can be annoying to celebs when fans get all excited over them when they are just trying to run an errand, or complete a mundane task. If I saw Prince in public, I would WANT to run to him, screaming out my love for him. In reality, I would assess the situation, and decide if I really want to bother him and risk leaving a bad impression of myself. I would at least look his way, smile, and say hello.

I'll say this. If I do ever happen upon one of those completely random chances to meet him I hope he's having a good day and feels good. If he were a total jerk it would really piss me off, but I'd probably still be into his music. It's not like it's a secret that he can be mean, so I guess I'd just have to take my chances. Personally, I don't think I could pass up the opportunity to meet him if it were presented to me.

I think if I met Prince and he was an asshole,I would have a hard time listening to his music without remembering that...so I don't want to meet Prince! Cuz I'm pretty confident he wouldn't live up to my expectations.

Well I became a fan during the Purple Rain era where his personality did not appear too nice, so I never really cared or focused too much on meeting him or the person. It was always about his music and nothing else. But with me it goes with all entertainers.

I would tell him what I think of him right off the bat. There is nothing like telling the truth in those situations. The thing is Prince doesn't care what people think of him and continues acting the way he does because he knows fans will love him as he is and make money out of them.

I've always planned what I would say to Prince if he was mean to me:

*shouting loudly so that the Papparrazzi would notice*
"Fuck You, you tiny Purple Sperm with Hair!"

But I know I'd never have to say that, because I think P would be nice to me becasue I'd whip so much southern charm on him he'd be swimming in it. lol

If he was really a mean bastard, I think that would end it for me... It's irrational I know... It's not like the music would change... But in my head it would... I'd associate the music with a bastard, and I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it... and wouldn't want to anyway.
