Sometimes it snows in April- Way underrated

This is one of the most beautiful songs Prince has ever written. Has anyone heard the live version on One Nite Alone, Live? I find many of his songs should have been released as singles. Why aren't more of his really great songs recognized?

when you're in the mood, it's an amazingly powerful song. When you're not in the mood, it seems kind of sappy lol

It took me ten+ years to like it. I wasn't used to it's musical structure coming from Prince and company. Simple acoustics vs synth thickness and the avante purple of it all. It was ahead of me I admit. It is weird that I say it was ahead of me becasue it seems that they went back to basics with the song. It is so Joni when I was used to them being so synth fried rock/funk.

I'd say it's very well-regarded. And deservedly so, it's a beautiful and heartwrenching song.

SiSiA is a lovely, sad song.

It's hard for me to believe that there's really no story to it, but unless we're not being told everything, that's apparently the case. Weird. Gorgeous song though, regardless of whether or not Prince just pulled it out of his ass for the movie.

Sometimes It Snows In April is just incredible. Somehow, it simultaneously captures the pain of loss while celebrating the beauty of life.

With a song like this, it's really easy to overdo it and turn it into a corny, trite Hallmark commercial. Prince was smart in keeping it stripped down. It amplifies the lonely, retrospective atmosphere the song creates.

I'll always remember listening to this song the day my cat was put to sleep. I was amazed that the song was able to make me cry so much, and yet also make me smile at the end.

The song has a power, but it's a gentle, soothing power that washes over you and helps you think and feel more clearly.

Wonderful art.

Wendy & Lisa play the guitar and piano, Prince gave them a co-writing credit. If anything it seems to be a collaboration.

I don't think it is under-rated, at least not anymore than a hundred other album tracks Prince has done.

I dontagree, i really dont think its underrated. I have even read stories of people who know nothing about Princes music and name that song as a soothing song that helps them with dealing with the loss of their lost ones.

What makes this song so 'surprising' for me is that it has (musically speaking) a kind of nuance and subtlety i seldom hear in his other songs, it always makes me think this song is as well a 'wendy and lisa song' as it is a 'prince song', i mean, you can really draw lines from this song to the more folky material of Wendy and Lisa on their album 'eroica' and to their work with New sealand singer / songwriter Neil Finn (on his album 'One Nil').
I know this will probably lead to opposite remarks, but Wendy and Lisa really brought a sense of nuance and maturity to the Prince-sound (also shining trough on Sign of the Times) that i have unfortunately never heard before or after that on any Prince record.

One last question: Prince really seems able to show a sense of deep grief and emotion on this track with the use of his vocals. I often doubt if he's only referring to the fictional character of 'christopher tracey'. Might it be the case the songs lyrics actually refer to someones real dead in his close surroundings? If so, who might it be? If not, he sure is a great 'actor' when it comes to dealing with the emotions of grief and mourning.

I agree that the song is not underrated, on the musicology tour or ONA when he performed it people screamed with appreciation. I've always felt it was a great tune, simple but it captures you when one has time to listen to it!

If by underrated you mean to the public at large, well yes - any album track is only going to be known by the fanbase of that particular artist.

If you mean underrated to the "Prince community" then boy, are you wrong! nuts
