Which 1 of the prince side projects was the least necessary?

The time and Sheila E had important niches in the purple kingdom but what about the 2nd string? Did we really need robin power ,carmen, vanity, appolonia, mayte? Did they serve any important musical purpose or were they useless eye candy? last i checked prince's job was 2 be a musician not a one man employment agency 4 his girlfriends...

tie between tc ellis & robin power. two of the most annoying voices i've ever heard.

TC Ellis was not a Prince side project. And nothing official ever came out on Robin Powers so you cant call that a side project. Mazarati fit this common misconception as well. They were a Brownmark project.

Some side projects were: Madhouse, The Family, Jill Jones, The TIme, Apollonia 6, Vanity 6, Sheila E, Ingrid Chavez, Carmen Electra, NPG, Chaka Khan, GCS

Sheila E, lol... j/k ... No, I would say Carmen's album. Although it is pretty funky at times, about half way thru her voice and the slap vocals tend to wear out... The music is fine. Prince and company did alright, but Carmen's voice begins to side angle the intensity... CD music sexy err confuse lol...

Good call. Not to mention Carmen Electra's "rap" album, and "KamaSutra".

God, I know these women are good looking, but you'd think an artist of his calibre would know better.

aside from Shelia E,Jill Jones&Mavis Staples,Prince took a Good Beating at working with Air-Head Babe Acts.I think it hurt him as a Producer&whatnot.working with Vanity,Apollonia,Ingrid,Carmen Hurt Him in ways I Believe.Dude was a trip Every Babe He was with gotta drop a Album with.I Feel for Prince in a way though: if He were coming out now with all the Air-Head Babes He would Blow Up because that is in right now.He was in the wrong decade to score hits with No-Talent Chicks.

Eye beg 2 differ on UR definition of a side project.

A side project in my opinion is a project that not necissarily has 2 materialize in an official release. B-cuz projects can B cancelled 4 many reasons but they still R projects 4 the artist.

U might B right about TC Ellis, but Robin Powers was definitely PrinceĀ“s side project.

Well spoken. I agree. For me Carmen was definitely dispensable tho.
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

Oddly enough,I liked Ingrid's CD.Alot of the lyrics didn't make any sense, but the MUSIC is moody and hypnotic.

***Good Question---I'm ashamed to admit this, but I actually bought their lame album in 1988! The music is bland, commercial dance/pop.

***Dale Bozzio---I bought the 45 of her single "Simon,Simon".There was a Prince-written song ("Strong Love) on her album.

The early years of Paisley Park (1985-86) showed great promise, with excellent albums by The Family,Mazarati,Sheila E. and Madhouse.Things went downhill after that.
