Original version of Kiss

I guess the rumors about Mazarati originally doing Kiss are true. I’m not sure if I like there version better? But one thing is for sure it’s very funky. Here’s the link http://www.myspace.com/100mhp

A demo was recorded in April, 1985 and given 2 Mazarati , along with "100 M.P.H." and "Jerk Out" 4 their 1986 album. The demo only consists of Prince on acoustic guitar singing the first verse and the chorus. Mazarati, along with David Rivkin and Brown Mark, took Prince's acoustic demo of "Kiss" and totally reworked it into this funk number, which is quite similar 2 the released track. Upon hearing the new version, Prince reclaimed the song, making very few changes 4 the Parade track, even keeping Mazarati's backing vocals intact. Prince replaced Terry Casey's lead vocal and added a rhythm guitar part and dropped out the bass when he reclaimed the track

Terry Casey is the vocalist.

Housequake have posted (with permission), a lengthy old article on this, originally printed in Uptown #40, here.

It's quite similar to - and clearly influenced by - James Brown's song.
But the guitar part is not sampled, that's Prince playing.
(And it's not exactly the same, anyway)

I've always thought, that explains the single, but it doesn't explain the extra work that clearly must have been all Prince's on the extended version. It doesn't also specify whether the other verses in the song were written by Prince or Mazarati.

Props to Mazarati and David Rivkin for a great song. Gating the guitar with the hi-hat pattern was a stroke of genius.

I think it sounds better with the bass line

The bass adds nothing to the song. The rhythm was the better way to go.
"What kind of fuck ending is that?"
