Prince fan, well let's see, 1978! that's a long time to like swomeone's music, but I have watched him grow, and mature into a creative force like that which the world has never seen. Those of us who truly enjoy his music have been with him through thick and thin (as the old sayings go). Enjoy him while you can, because there will be imitators, but never another Prince.

I kind of followed his latest hit since Raspberry Beret in 1985 when I wanted to know who this Prince person was. I was in Standard 2 (or Grade 3 in Yankspeak). But it wasnt until late 4th form (1991) that I became obsessed with the arrival of the single Cream, I have never looked back and I will always thank that Cream video for doing that. It won a sure fire Prince Maniac. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

PRINCE IS A FREAKING GOD IN MY BOOKS! Not only is he hot, but he's the sexiest thing ever. I'm well on my way to hardcore. I've only been madly in love with Prince since oh, August of this very year, but that's okay! Soon enough, I shall be so hardcore you won't even believe it! Beautiful, loved, and blessed.

My first memory of Prince was when he was on American Bandstand (I think it was '79, so I was 7). I was too young to be a hardcore fan, but my folks really liked I Wanna Be Your Lover. Anyway, the 1999 album hooked me, and I was a full-fledged fam member once Around the World in a Day dropped. So, it's been a 24 year odyssey for me.

I've been a fan since after 1999 and Little Red Corvette came out, but I was only 10 years old and didn't have any records. We lived in Detroit City and those 2 songs were EVERYWHERE.
When Purple Rain came out, not only was I hooked, but I started collecting his back catalog to that point. My mom got them for me; some for birthday (Nov), some for Christmas and then some for Easter. We didn't have a lot of money, so getting a new Prince LP or 2 was a big deal. The next few were gifts as well, and by SOTT I was buying them myself. I have been a fan ever since. One thing to note was this: up to the point right before Purple Rain came out, I was a bigger MJ fan. I grew up on the J5 and then MJ solo, and MJ was THE MAN. My sister had bought all the MJ stuff with her babysitting money. Oh how things changed.

1981: appreciated him
1983-1999: blew me away! 1984-1998: HARDCORE FANATIC, which included going to GLAM SLAM L.A. at least 1 or 2x a month on the rumour that Prince would play, had subscriptions to many fan mags (PRINCE FAMILY, UPTOWN, etc.) and listened to EVERYTHING the man released... and didn't release! 1998- present: respect the work, enjoy the new albums, check the org several times a week but not nearly as HARDCORE as I was. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I used to think that I was a hardcore fan. Then I found this website, & saw what a true hardcore is. Now I think of myself as an oscillating fan. [Edited 11/17/06 13:28pm]

Fan since '1999/Little Red Corvette' was re-released in the UK in 1984, it got to number 2 I think. Then it was BANG - ''Let's Go Crazy'. I was hooked until 'Batman' then fell off to a large extent when I heard and saw 'Grafiti Bridge'.
