I discovered him in 2000 when I went away to college and was first exposed to Napster. I used to download random stuff that I never would have considered spending money on. The first Prince tracks I came across were When Doves Cry and I Would Die 4 U. I remember just listening to those 2 songs over and over again. I eventually purchased the album and expanded out from there.

Since 1982 when I was 12 years old then. I was watching MTV and saw the video for "Little Red Corvette." I remember thinking 'who is that fag?!?' But, my friends had the "1999" double album (the vinyl, baby) and we started playing it and dancing to it and I was like 'this is funky!' We were also getting turned on to the songs "Nasty Girl" by Vanity 6 and "The Walk" by The Time. I really wasn't hardcore into music yet, but this started it for me. Of course, in the following couple of years, "When Doves Cry" blew up as well as the whole "Purple Rain" movie and soundtrack. The "When Doves Cry" vinyl single was the first Prince purchase I ever made. I saw the movie "Purple Rain" in the theaters back then probably over 20 times. The "Purple Rain" Tour was my first time to see a rock concert and it blew me away! I have been hardcore for Prince ever since, just as much obsessed now as I was back then. Actually, the first Prince song I remember hearing on the radio and rollerskating rink was "I Wanna Be Your Lover." But, it wasn't until during the "Purple Rain" phenomenon that I knew it was a Prince tune. I am glad that I have been with him for so long now and will definitely continue.

Ive been a fan for a pretty long time, I was in the 10th grade, it was 83. I remember hearing the songs from 1999 but when purple rain came out, Me and some friends went to the movies and after that i will always find him attractive (very). I didnt get to c him until 1988 lovesexy but that was all she wrote for me, I remember driving back from the show so depressed that it was over and wanting to hear everything i could get my hands on. It was like a broadway show which Ive never been to by the way. Anyway now its 2006 and I am 39 and will b a fan until Im gone! I have to say that to me he gets better and better as time goes by! Back when i was in highschool, the way he was and looked turned me on but now that Im a mommy and the way he is and looks now turns me on, he looks very nice. I have to admit that its the whole package really and the story that it tells not just the looks! Peace yall

About as far back as I can remember to about 1982, so that would make me 8 at the time.

I was utterly OBSSESSED with him until I was in my late teens and celebrity crushes became boring compared to crushing on boys that I personally knew.

1984/85, when my hormones started to roar, I was 12. I remember myself finding schoolboys dull and wishing I was with this attractive, talented and exiting shy man! fallinluv I'm married now, have a kid and I haven't seen much of him the last years so I tend to forget but I'm amazed how I still get this strange feeling in my stomach when I see some good live footage of him or an interview mushy, as if I'm travelling 20 years back in time. He still makes me feel happy!! sun

That is funny. When I played that record back then my brother used to think he was singing "come to the sea."

since i was 3. I remember listening 2 The "Batman Album" cuz i was such a big fan of Batman. I remember wanting 2 hear "Partyman" and "batdance" over and over again, until the tape finally got worn out. So then my dad bought me another copy then it got worn out. So hes probably purchased the Batman album about 5 times 4 me. So then, i watched Purple Rain and was hooked on that movie when i was 6. By the time i was in 3rd grade, i started inviting friends over 2 my house and i would introduce them 2 Prince. We would watch Purple Rain a lot and listen 2 favorites. My friends seemed mostly influenced by a song called "Pope". I also started dancing in music class, and during recess. Even have home videos of me dancing 2 prince's music. BUT. by the time i was in 4th grade (1999, i lost faith in Prince, bcuz well, radio wouldnt play him, "Newpowersoul" album was lame. I didnt get faith back until 2004, when i was in walmart and saw the "Musicology" cd for sale. Bought it, went home and listened 2 it, and fell in love all over again, Then i grabbed the Prince cds i had stored in the closet, and jammed all over again. From then on, i bought the Prince movies on dvd "Purple Rain, Graffiti Bridge, etc" and even a book called "Prince-Possessed by Alex Hahn...also, sumone even gave me my first 5 prince bootleg dvds. I even remember which 5 they were "Purple Rain Work Print,Gold Files,Musicology in LA, and PVC 6 & 7. So now here i am, a 16 year old Possessed prince fan who gets on a Prince site everyday when i get home from school, and i also have tons of bootlegs that i probably wont find time 2 watch. But i have them.

SO Eye am a huge prince fan

Do you like Musicology as much as his older music? I'm curious how it sounds to someone with fresher ears than mine.
