Re-Record

just wondering, could Prince re-record sum of hits and release them as singles again. Like the new version of "Kiss" sounds much better than the Parade album. ..and the new Version of "Black Sweat" sounds much better than the 3121 album version..also that would b a perfect single

Kiss with Black Sweat on the other side with an Extended version!

Yes he can. He did this with 1999: The New Master. At one point he was intending to re-release his back catalogue himself by re-recording every track; supposedly he did get as far as re-recording everything but then gave up on the idea.

I've never heard of another artist trying this. I expect it would confuse the general public no end if he ever did re-release everything: "He's re-releasing his albums... only they're not the originals... but they're basically the same songs..." Imagine record shops where you have 2 of every album to choose from!

Am I missing something or did Prince come out with a new version of KISS that I've missed? The way you phrase that question sounds like he did.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

LOL, those new versions are not better at all in my opinion, they sound much more typical and forgetable in those new incarnations.

Prince music is best when it slaps you in the face at first listen.

The version of Kiss on the Happy Feet soundtrack is merely a cover by 2 of the voice talents from the film.

I thought those sounded like live versions (we talked about this at SOS's house).

Like live versions, they have a bit more energy, but they lack some of the individuality of the originals. But I only heard them that one time, so maybe I didn't hear right.

You'll never please everyone. I kind of liked 1999 the new master confused

But on the whole I figure, why bother with your old stuff unless it's a concert. Focus on the new.

if anyone likes the new versions, better, that's fine by me, I like the old versions... music hooks differently for different people.

exactly, to each his own. What's strange to me is how people are upset by new versions. Like 1999 The New Master somehow erased or tainted the old version. Actually it only made most people remember the original with greater fondness.
