I Feel for You I remember how excited I was when Chaka Kahn's version of this song came out in 84. The radio stations made such a big deal about how Stevie Wonder and Melle Mel were on it, But I nearly peed my pants when I found out Prince wrote it. I remember it also being such a big deal 'cuz the country was still in the middle of the Purple Rain maddness. However it was a few weeks later that I discovered, to my dissapointment, that he didn't write it for her and that it was a remake (at that point the only songs I knew of off the Prince album was IWTBYL and Sexy Dancer).
Since then I have always wondered how much input Prince had on Chaka's version of the song. I've always assumed that he just gave it to her and others were responsible for updating the sound (since it did not, to me, sound like anything Prince had done up to then). But knowing the control freak Prince is, it would be surprising for him not to want more input on it. Since many of you are much more in the know then I am, does anyone have any insight on this? In other words; how much of Prince is in her version? | |
