Prince Make's Bad Videos! Prince's lastest music isn't the problem, maybe it's his god awful videos. They do not go with the premise of he tryig to get across. And his videos are basicly in concert forum.Maybe if his videos are more colorful and exciting then maybe his videos would get more playing time and people would understand his music much better.

I think you misunderstand the intent of Bell6938's thread. He wrote, "Prince Make's Bad Videos!" which, if one will note, has an apostrophe followed by an "s", making it possessive. Therefore, either "Prince Make" is a person with the first name of Prince and last name of Make who has bad videos or else Prince has a brand, a make, if you will, like a car (Toyota being a make of car) that has bad videos, the "make" being NPG Productions, which has bad videos.

In other breaking news, Prince is actually very short! "What kind of fuck ending is that?"

Prince's videos have always sucked!
Especially the independant 90s ones with a shoe-string budget.

From what he's said about them in the past, Prince has largely seen them as perfunctory marketing pieces, not the career-defining articles that acts like MJ and Madonna treat them as.
Secondary to the music that is.

I DON'T AGREE!!!

Secondary to the music that is. Well, he used to care about them, according to an interview with Alan Leeds: He had just spent the entire day in the studio creating still another funky masterpiece - I can't remember the song, it might have been something for "Lovesexy"...
On this particular day, he called my office and said, "Hey, come downstairs a minute - I've got something to play for you." Such calls weren't rare but he seldom volunteered to play something unless he was truly excited about it, so I raced to the studio. When he would play something new for you, he'd often dance around the studio, illustrating the songs nuances or emphasize certain parts by singing along in your ear so you wouldn't miss a lyric. On this day, by the third time through the high volume playback, he began shouting his concept for a video clip! I was astounded - not only had he created the song from scratch in a single day but he already had a video concept! After the playback stopped he saw the puzzled look on my face and quizzed me about it. I said, "I can't believe you already have a video in mind". He responded somewhat snidely, "Alan, don't you get it? These kids today don't hear music like we do! They have to SEE music. That's what MTV has done. I have to think that way." In retrospect, it was hardly the most profound statement in the world, but it was an awakening for me - a reminder that the more experience one has in the music business, the more one's liable to get stuck in their ways of thinking. I would say he has made some fantastic videos, and broke the ground for black artists on MTV along with MJ, but he has also made some very uninspiring videos as well. I think you can say his output quality has been erratic, I mean look at even 3121, Te Amo and Black Sweat where high quality, then Fury is just a quickly knocked out badly shot performance.

Prince has never really been that intrested in to music videos, and visuals in music. I think Raspberry Beret is Prince's best music video, it's a cool and underrated video. I also like 1999,Kiss, Mountatins and Batdance.

wow, I just love how Prince fans will ignore facts that contradict their position just so they can continue their own delusional ideas of who Prince is, which isn't who he is at all but only what they want or wish him to be. did you not read the quote right above you from Alan Leeds? creating videos obviously were important to him if that is how the audience wanted to listen to his music. Prince seems extremely interested in adapting to a changing environment in which music was also experienced visually and seems to have not only embraced it but spent alot of energy to ensure his vision of his music was produced. this isn't a knock on the quality, but the ignorant position that he wasn't interested just to defend the poor quality of his videos. this message brought to you by logic.

Doesn't matter as long as it was well shot. Prince shot Te Amo Corazon in Morocco and dived into a swimming pool directed by Salma Hayek, your point is? [Edited 10/22/06 4:54am]

I also don't think Prince is a visually talented person, who knows how to make his music visual.

Maybe you can cite some reliable source, but I often find when people say stuff like that, actually they never heard it anywhere but have just formulated the opinion on their own and then come to believe it is commonly known. He went on to insinuate that he only did them because he was expected to. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Some classic vids...sign o the time's is the most original ever...dirty and moody...to mention aids in a song was more dangerous than Prince turning into a ware wolf..prince has never been mainstraem and he will never be.

That was the quote I was thinking of.... And as we know, Prince likes to say one thing and do another. Saying this following the bucketloads of unreleased videos he shot in the mid-90s.

The way I interpreted Prince as quoted by Alan Leeds was that Prince understood the role that videos play in the music business today, understood the necessity for making them and in that sense was interested. I didn't, from that quote, get the impression he enjoyed it or thought videos enhance the listening experience in any way. I have the impression he thinks people are "missing out" on the listening experience by having to have a visual.

[Edited 10/22/06 4:54am] My point is that Prince do not make great videos. The Blacksweat video was lazy/lackluster and could have been far better as well as entertaining.I believe that if Prince can get his act together on the video tip he could sell way more albums.
