Prince as Daddy Pop ...just my thoughts aloud on the song and the Prince that we know today.
Punchin' in the rock and roll clock (oh Daddy) See all the people wonder why You set your goals high - high as the sky See the people runnin' from the truth Livin' in the past When they need to be livin' the new Pop Daddy (oh yeah) - Daddy Pop I think that Prince has reached the musical and artistic level that he wanted to achieve for a long, including when he wrote Daddy Pop. 1stly, Prince has always wanted respect, not only as a performer, but as producer, musician, and arranger...hence the time honoured signature of p,a,c and p by Prince. For years, the music industry did not want to honour Prince the respect he deserved in each of the above areas, instead, choosing to highlight his openly sexual nature. Prince, on the other hand, wanted to be known for his art and versitality (sp?) ... overall. His many productions with various artists over the years, IMO, was never respected by the media. In pointing to his public identity issues, his vast productions were ignored. Today, Prince has achieved the role/status/level of Daddy Pop. Youner musicians and artists from Beyonce, Outkast, DÁngelo, plus artists from before and of Prince's own contemporary age, acknowledge the vast influence and impact he's had on modern music. Musicology was a statement from Prince about what he's really about > music, and as Daddy Pop, he's achieved shonuff much![i]

He wasn't the only person behind "the MPLS sound," wasn't the first to write & produce for others and be a talented musician. When I was 16, I thought "Alexis De Paris" should've won a Grammy for best instrumental, and that Prince was being dissed by the industry, too. These days, I think he's received his due.
