Prince's rap on "Push" I can't get enough of this song lately.
Crowd: "Prince.....get on the mic!" Prince: "You don't want me on the mic." Crowd: "Prince.....get on the mic!" Prince: "You don't want me on the mic." Crowd: "Prince.....get on the mic!" Prince: "You don't want me on the mic." Then Prince launches into a fantastic 90s 'party-rap' cleverly using song titles from the Diamonds and Pearls album. Funky-shit.

Yeah, always liked that bit. He mentions 'Horny Pony' because originally it was going to be on the album - shows you should wait until the final album configuration! He uses the same device on Newpower Soul where on the title track he mentions the other song titles, and once again he mentions a title which didn't make the final configuration - The Good Life.
Love the evil laughter of the last bit "Stealing up kiddies like a circus clown". I'm sure that is a reference to the film "Something Wicked This Way Comes" which is about an evil circus coming to town stealing souls. Around this time the NPG used to perform an unreleased song called "Something Funky This House Comes" and it appeared on an early configuration of Diamonds & Pearls, so put this together with that part of Push, it makes a connection.

D+P is a great album if you remove Tony M and his raps from the album!
I think during the tour didn't he do this rap from his dressing room? A camera came in which was linked to the screens on stage. Very different! Like it! http://www.myspace.com/savage1999uk

The dressingroom rap was during Jughead, not Push.

I've always wanted to do a dance mix with Prince's "It's thanda, when I'm on the mic, daddy pop's in the house...' rap with Madonna's Latte and Paloti's rap.

This always makes me for some reason. I don't like the song, but I sit through it because this part makes anything worth it. "Naw, man...you don't want me on the mic!" And I love the sinister laugh after "snatchin' up kiddies like a circus clown" Mwaaaahahahahahahahaaaaa! The Normal Whores Club

I've been watching many Borat clips recently, and this is one I just tried searching for on YouTube from his old appearances on the 11 O'Clock Show in Britain that I haven't seen in probably 7 or 8 years. Borat is speaking with an upper-class English gentleman. Borat: And what do you do? Man (posh English accent): I'm retired. Borat: You are retard? Man: No. Retired. Ah, I guess you had to be there. If you haven't seen Borat, he's worth looking into.

Corny? When I was 24 I couldn't get enough of that song!
I loved it all. The showcasing of his many talented musicians at the time. I loved the dare: "You don't want me on the mike. No man, you don't want me on the mike." Then his beautiful falsetto, "Whoa, waa, whoa, waa, whoa, waa, whooooaaa... It's thunda when I'm on the mike..." I used to love singing along to that rap of his. Okay, thrown off a bit by :stealing all the kiddies like a circus clown.." And just who in the hell is the 'jester' who's on the phone? Y'know, "just one in a long line that wanna see me..." I don't care how much of a funk I was in, that song cheered me up every time. "Whenever you think that you can't, that's when you need to be tryin'!" "Plaid shorts are completely over."

As much as I love Prince's music, there's never been anything "clever" about any of his raps. Rapping is best left to young hip people (preferably Black people, but that's a whole 'nother conversation). Prince has always sounded like an old dude trying to rap whenever he attempts it. But he raps better than K-Fed. But I still like "18 & Over" and "P Control"- and it's not because of the rap!
