I heard it on the radio before I was really a fan, and I was very moved by it. It made me want to find out more about the person singing it...

I've never really understood the hype for the song or the album. They are both good but certainly not above very good.

I thought it was a weak effort on that album and a terrible closer. Again the bombastic shmaltzyness just doesn't appeal to me. I also find the "all that glitters ain't gold" bit a tad trite.

Though ask me in a few years I may feel differently, as this album has about 4 songs left I don't care for...maybe 3.

I love the line-

'There's a lady
99 years old,
If she led a good life,
heaven takes her soul,
That's the theory,
and if you don't want to know,
step aside and make way for those who want to go'
Genius!!!!!

Not sure what to think.

I like the showy, Purple Rain-ish sound it has. And even with the man looking bone-thin and barely able to hold up that guitar, I really like the video, simple as it is.

But I'm iffy on the the lyrics. "This is the only way to salvation and if you don't like it get out of the way." ? I dunno. I know it's not a theme new to the lil guy, and overall I DO like the song, but something about it rubs me the wrong way.

JMO. shrug

That said, I know all the words and it's damn fun to sing. smile

Hahahahaha lol I remember watching the video when I was 13 thinking, "Man, he sure he playing hard, he's working up a sweat and everything." In reality, he was just starving, and barely had the energy! Oh well, I thought he was totally hot, and I had no idea how old he really was. Ah, memories...

Not a fan of it, at all. Horrible ending to a bit of an overrated album. Don't get me wrong, the Gold Experience is decent, but the way people make out that it's his best Post-80's album is laughable. Some quality songs on there, no doubt, but some shitty ones, too. Gold is probably the shittiest.

By the way, Rainbow Children demolishes The Gold Experience in my eyes.

I agree this album & song are overrated. Good, but cheesy at times & not weird enough for my taste.

The song is way too conventional, though very well executed. I hate the keyboard opener. Not bluesey & cool like Purple Rain.

I much prefer Last December.

The first time I ever heard this track was at Wembley Arena '95 during the tour, but I can still remember being amazed by this unknown song and being blown away by a fuckin amazing guitar solo. couldnt wait to get my hands on the album, even though that was the time when he was talking about it not seeing the light of day, if warners had anything to do with it.

I'll be the first to admit, even though Prince has put out scores of gay-ass songs like 'Gold' in the last 16 years or so, there's nothing out there even remotely as good as the Org wink

Better than Purple Rain.
(I do however prefer the less over-produced version that appeared on the Outtakes 93/94 boot)

Love the video..

The vid has a real feel good factor about it i think.. especially with the solo's etc at the end and the people in the crowd's faces are like "fuck, i just been blow away". Oh a Prince looked cool as ice
