Does anyone know what was cut out of Purple Rain film? I just bought the DVD version of Purple Rain at Tower Records for 10$ and noticed that there are some deleted scenes in the original trailer. One of Prince and Apollonia staring at each other in a barn, one of him pulling her by the arm when she's rehearsing with The Time and one of Prince fighting with Jellybean Johnson. I remember reading years ago that there was a love scene that was too explicit and was cut out as well. Does anyone know anything about the deleted scenes from the film and if there are any plans to release a special edition DVD of Purple Rain? | |

You're talking about the famous "Dirty Sanchez" scene.

There is also a scene where Morris and Apollonia are running away from Prince's House. And in the orginal cut, Jill Jones is in the movie more. | |

I have an early script of 'Purple Rain' that includes many of the deleted scenes.In this version,Vanity was the co-star (not Apollonia).There are a few steamy love scenes that would have surely earned the film an "X" rating.This script also has Prince and The Revolution performing the songs "Electric Intercourse" and "G-Spot". | |

Bear in mind, though, that most trailers are made before the final edit of the film is made, so unless Albert Magnoli and Warners decide to do a director's cut, we probably won't get to see these scenes in full. Matthew Hudson

I have an early screener version of the movie and a few things were changed.
The major one is:Apollonia gives a long speech when she is drunk, right before she throws Prince's earring back at him. A few pre-overdubs in the movie. When Morris says "That Apollonia Babe", to Jerome as they are walking down the street,He actually said "that half and half babe" I always thought it was changed, the words didn't match up to Morris' mouth. Unfortunately the quality is just terrible, but it's worth watching. | |
