Prince Fan Decorum

This is a something that I've been thinking about since I saw the "SOTT" concert on TV a while ago. What do Prince fans do at his concerts. As I watched the show I saw that nobody fainted and that nobody was holding little "I love You" signs or anything.

Is that normal? I've grown up as a Michael Jackson fan and I can say that I know the MJ fans to scream before the man gets on stage, carry signs, dress like him and chase his bus after a show. (Once I even saw a man hang on to the top of the bus until he was bumped off and when he hit the ground he was still running.)

I'd like to see Prince in concert, but I don't want to be the only kid there screaming or jumping up and down.

Any advice you can offer will help. (But I know that I'm a screamer. Hell I screamed when I saw P on American Idol!)

1. Please don't stand near me and ruin my enjoyment on the night.

2. Please don't stand near a bootlegger and spoil it for me afterwards.

Apart from that, have a great time.

*writing in purple notepad*
"Do...not..stand..near..langeblue...or...bootlegger."

Kidding, but I do hope I'm not the only one yelling cause I don't feel like wrestling with a 500 pound bodyguard named Tiny.

And I really DON'T want P to look at me and shout.
"Shut up already...DAMN!"

ugh! I just deleted my last post! mad
basically ....yes, people dress up as prince..I've seen it. lol and many folx just dress up kinda fancy ..ya know. Lots of purple is usually worn.
everyone screams! even langeblue! razz people do bring signs.
I wouldn't attempt bringing a camera...your bag is usually searched...best bet is to bring a very small purse for your basic essentials only.
I've screamed, I've cried, I've dress up (not like prince) it's a great time! just go as you please and scream if you feel like it! You will not be alone.
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

i heard he gives great shows even now. i can't wait to see him one day in conbcert. it would be fun. i think even as prince gets older- he gets new fans and his older fans stay with him and their tastes in music grow as prince grows as an artist.

P always gives a great show. I saw my first real P show when I was 13 (on tv) and even thought I didn't know what he was singing, I was jumping all over my room happy to see him!

You wanna scream when the entire audience screams, like when Prince asks for it, go right ahead. Beyond that, don't be the idiot who screams every 20 seconds "Whooooo! Priiiaaaannnce!".

Big signs are great, except for the people seated behind you who may"accidentally" drop a beer on your head for blocking their view.

If you must participate, wear something purple, scream...but not too much, don't take a camera (although cameraphones....) basically if you're mindful that there are other people trying to enjoy the show also everyone will have a good time.

I usually scream during Prince shows. Not as much if the people around me aren't as into it as I am. neutral But I like to show my enthusiasm and appreaciation to the man for giving a great show. (I don't scream every 20 seconds though). I think he plays off of the energy from the audience. The more we give him, the more he gives us. biggrin

I also do any action that he requests ("jump up and down", "wave your hands", "say_____", "SING!!!").

Exactly. And I'd just like to add that doing the "oooowooah!" during slow songs or when nobody else is doing it is annoying. Also, please be mindful that while you may think your tamborine playing is cool. Banging on a symbol tamborine in someones ear or above their head is just not cool.

Look, if you ever sit next to me at a concert every so often you will catch me shouting too.

But I've sat next to the guy who was screaming so much he wasn't even hearing the damn show ! At that point it was just "dude, please shut the fuck up! confused"

(and yes he did ruin the bootleg I heard of that same concert later)

People enjoy the music in different ways, some scream and shout and others listen respectfully until the time to clap and whoop, there's room for all types of expressions of enjoyment.

I think it just gets a bit much when some fan is screaming not so much through enjoyment but more as a way to somehow prove they are the biggest fan in the building, gets kinda selfish.

luck..or unluck of the draw I suppose. I sat next to a chick at the first celly show who refused to throw up the wild sign...she crossed her arms and said "I ain't doin' that" I was like ..why the fuck'd you come here? It was kinda funny cause Prince was like someone ain't doin' it y'all and I looked at her like..see! lol even though we were kinda in the back and he wasn't lookin at her or anything.
I hear what your saying but....I just think if you feel like screamin' then scream. If the dude next to you says politely...hey...shut the fuck up..then maybe you should pipe down a bit but...untill then...scream away! biggrin

lol ruined the bootleg you were tryin' to make ...I mean you heard of that same concert huh? yeah...that does suck. wink

I wasn't making any bootleg, I lack both the competence and the cajones for that.

Seriously pissed me off when I came across the boot and thought "finally I can hear a decent version of that show... and then DAMNIT there he is again! mad"

dunno what the woman's exact reaction was, but that's another thing i cannot stand: just because somebody's not dancing or throwing up the wild sign or what-not doesn't mean that they're being a party poop. everybody don't have to dance to have a good time; just seeing the brotha play and the whole environment of the show is more than enough for me.

it seems like that lady was kinda snotty about it, so in her case...oh well. lol

Man, I have an uncle that broke up with a girl because she kept ruining concerts for him. They went to see Prince somewhere out of state during the "Purple Rain" tour and he said that she wouldn't shut the hell up for anything in the world. Like for the whole set, she was yelling "PRINCE!" at the top of her lungs and people were cursing him and her out. LOL.

no really I know you don't have to be throwin' down but I hope you at least bob to the music or tap your toe or SOMETHING! how can you NOT, is where I'm at.
Now I got all you guys thinkin' I'm a screaming freak at the shows and really..I'm not...I scream (yell, woo hoo, whatever) when the song starts or when a killer solo is starting or prince does something that prompts a scream outta me but...I'm under controll...really! but if P asks me to throw up the wild sign...and I'm at the first celly EVER...I'm trowin' the damn thing up! whether I think it's the coolest or not. razz

for me, i can't remember the elements within a show if i'm occupied with singing/dancing all the time so it's best for me to stay put.
