effect on When Doves Cry) Then it was announced that it was going to get an official release, and because I knew I'd go out and buy the 'official' thing, I ended up taping over my home- recorded version. I was kicking myself when I realised they'd stuck that stupid split screen effect over the whole song, and I no longer had the original. At least YOU were solely to blame for taping over your home-recorded version My mom erased my copy by "accident", or so she claimed afterwards... . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. But this video is just The promo video versions of TMWU and IWD4U/BIAS kill the versions in this video. Purple Rain needs to be retired for all eternity. Not because it's a bad song, but because the shit has gotten lame. The piano medley on this tour was not very interesting. I think the one in this video is actually one of the better ones...I guess. [Edited 10/12/06 8:58am] How many other albums from 1984 are you listening to? I doubt many - really, I will repeat - I doubt many. You might be listening to one-hit wonders from then, but not whole albums. If you are, I would love to see a list that is not obscure. Having said that, this is 22 years later - and that album still holds up. It holds up better than Thriller, that's for sure. I hear at least one song from PR every day on the radio, and aside from the nostalgia that I have for the album, it still does have a certain magic to it. Purple Rain should NOT be retired - it's one of the greatest albums of all time. Maybe you should just take a break from it for a while. Neither my comment nor is this thread about the year 1984, albums, albums from 1984, or the Purple Rain album. Try to keep up, will ya? I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

People have been saying that, but the Revheads don't want to believe that Prince was just actually playing the race card even further than he had been. He, along with MJ, Lionel, TTD, Whitney and all the recording industry execs knew exactly what they were doing. And all you have to do is visit the boards on this forum to understand its impact: Prince was better when he had the Revolution Translation: Prince was at his best when he was surrounded by white folks and those white folks were helping to embellish his sound. Michael is better when he's singing pop records like "Dirty Diana" Translation: Soul singing and music sucks. Scream like a headbanger! All of TTD's albums are better than his first one Translation: See comment above Conclusion: (You already know) But I digress "Prince and the Revolution LIVE sucks" Miles said similar things about the industry and people's perceptions in his autobiography. As far as the vid, aside from killer versions of God, Possessed, the 20min Purple Rain and How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore, its easily my least favorite vid. The SOTT DVD and Lovesexy live are my favorite live official releases by a mile. Wasn't that impressed with the Parade shows either. The Rev. had more soul in the Parade shows but the energy level and urgency was still a bit lacking. [Edited 10/15/06 19:26pm]

I'm so confused. Don't be confused. There's only one lord...Jesus! It doesn't matter whoe ate the apple first. Do you believe in love? Do you believe in lust? (insert a Yankee damned Doodle laser beam) I'm curious.....What was you doing in 1985/6 when this Video was actually released? I still watch this Video after 20 years - It isn't my favourite Live Video.....But it still gets a lot of play - Well actually the laserdisc copy I have does as my Videos are getting tired now. The fact is, back in the Mid 80's this was an awesome show - It still is, mostly, I would presume to those who saw it way back when. Lovesexy is far superior, but then so was Prince's music, SOTT is great, but the Video itself is lame.....Why would Prince have wanted to try and create a story within was and still is beyond me????? Final Thought..... If you don't like it, give your copy to someone who would....(subtle hint)..... .........Gimme your Doughnut,,,,,,

I agree actually, the concert in full kinda sucked. It was way to glossy and uneven.
But the GOD piano performance & the 20 minute Purple Rain performance makes it worth your time!

It's crap if you've got an old worn out VHS video, awesome if you've got a rip from the old laser disc

I enjoyed watch the show. Okay so maybe Wendy and Lisa was off-key on certain songs or it was difficult of hearing Brownmark's bass at times, or that they show splitscreen on WDC for the entire performance, or some other minor glitches. Still....
But I like it for what it is. One of the greatest Prince performances I ever seen.
