EXODUS... some deep FUNK. So I just got back 2 NY from AES 2006 in San Fran, & I went 2 Amoeba Records... How I never had 'Exodus' is beyond my conception... I somehow never heard it.
Anyways, among several other records, I got 'Exodus' on CD... Oh my... Forget about why, or how, I never got this, in a vein and in a time, when I really shoulda.... This is every bit as deep as any level of Funk as any era, within, and including The Time, or as any other production... and I'm from the Old School. In short... This shit is as real as anything. Peace. G. [Edited 10/10/06 13:33pm] "He's a musician's musician..."

I couldn't agree more. As I said on another thread, just recently, Big fun is truly that. The guitar on The Exodus Has Began simply blows me away everytime I hear it.
Exodus is a truly magnificent album.

Could have left of the skits though!

The Exodus doesnt work for me as an album as such, but there are some great cuts on there, most noteably "The Exodus Has Begun", "The Good Life", and "Get Wild". It would have been interesting to see Prince use these on his own albums, but he wasnt for giving WB his better meterial at this point.
BTW, has anyone heard the recent dance version someone has recorded of The Good Life??? They play it in my gym all the time, but i have no idea who's covered it. Its an obscure choice to cover to say the least.

Is it a cover or a remix? I know that a Good Life remix briefly made a foray into the Uk charts back a year or so after the album was released.
I love some of the skits! Especially Prince as frustrated eater/restaurant owner, superb.

I really like this cd. There are too many skits but one or 2 of them are hilarious. Has he ever performed any of them live?Well,I know on the Emporium shows he did stuff with the tracks in the background ,but I mean completely live.He should do a live recording of exodus and black. I got my copy from Amazon.uk and I am very funkily pleased with it. My fav is the one about the spaceship. So funky how Prince altered his voice to sound like a big guy:"The exodus just began."

Love this album! I'd even go so far to say I love it as much that other year's offering: Come. Okay, maybe not. Or maybe. In a different way. SO many great tracks on this and it makes me wanna every time I hear it. And you can never have too many of those!

Bass, Guitar, Keys, Percussion, & Drums. By the time I was 16, I absorbed nearly every James Brown, Sly Stone, and Parliament-Funkadelic album made. I was just sayin' that 'Exodus' was a lot funkier than I had imagined. U better check yourself before U wreck yourself, kid. G. "He's a musician's musician..."

Fair enough. But It's nothin' like the stuff they used to make back in the day. To me Exodus is just bland 90s (c)rap-funk. Who the %@$ R U?
Me? I'm Dr. Funkenstein, the cool ghoul with the bump-transplant. Dontcha know my funk is the best? Imma slap you in the face with the one, so don't mess with me, brotha. Well, in a way, nothing is as funky as it was then, but The Funk is still here, even when it changes it's clothes. Yeah, some of the drum sounds sound "90's", so 2 speak, but there is some serious Funk in the keys, in the Bass, and in the horns... ...and U ain't slappin nothing nowhere, brotha, so let's just simmer it down now, and be peace. Cool? G. "He's a musician's musician..."

It's thick baby. One of my all-time favorite Prince records. What The Black Album only hinted at.
And "if you can describe it, it aint funky".

Strange that something you wouldn't by the definition book call funky, can still be one of the funkiest jams oh his whole career. Talking 'bout 'The Exodus has begun' of course.
