Your Prince Ipod Playlists I currently have 2 playlists for Prince. One for his live stuff including the Lovesexy concert, the Nude tour, SOTT tour, & ONA tour. the other is an exceedingly long list that chronologically lists every album track, b-side, 12" version, remix and outtake that i consider worthy. Ive added and removed songs to cerate albums as I think they should be, and ive also included as many protegee acts as I have.
This is something of an amazing list, but serves to be more frustrating than satisfying as there is just so much on there. What im looking for is a little inspiration as to new playlists i can create, so wondered how everyone else playlists his stuff. what are the categories? What are the criterea? What are the playlists themselves?

I've just got the Prince tunes I really like. There's far too much other quality music outthere to waste all my space up with Prince. I'd get bored otherwise.

I got a few.
I have one with about a 110 favourites tunes called A Prince Profile. The list was compiled with two criteria. First was that they had to be my favourites and second they had to woo non-fans. I just browsed all albums and picked off my faves. Some tracks I edited, as some parts, like the horrid bells at the end of Do Me Baby might work on the album, but not nesecarily on this playlist. For this compilation I am now checking good quality outtakes. I have included the playlist, without outtakes, for your convenience. I have one with ballads. Actually two, as I have one with ALL the ballads and one with the BEST ballads, compressed for CD, both called The Ballad Blizzard. The long blizzard contains ALL the ballads, including ones I do not really love, like Diamonds And Pearls, the condensed for CD list is highly personal. Just the ones that move me. I have one with religious and spiritual songs called Songs 4 Sundays. I am compiling one with satellite act like The Time and Sheila E. Soon to follow is a live compilation.

I like some of these ideas, particularly this one about wooing non-fans. Im always thinking of ways in which you could present his songs to non-fans to convert them, but to do it with some of the more obscure numbers - not just purple rain. I like the idea of a playlist to show a non-fan exactly what prince can do - ie. the breadth of his repetoire - his guitar playing, his singing, his funky side, his experimental side, his beats, his songwriting - but Ive never actually succeeded in creating a playlist im happy with.

I can understand. But with Prince still recording, you will never be finished. At least, I am not; almost every time he releases a new album, a new ballad woos me and an old one has to bite the dust. Most recent favourites are The One, One Nght Alone and Refection, for instance. But to include them on my cd I had to boot Anna Stesia and Let's Have A Baby. Tough decisions. But it keeps you busy. I forgot to tell you about my jazzy instrumental playlist, with Prince instrumentals, Madhouse tracks and stuff from the last instrumental albums. The X-album becomes sufferable in between all the other instrumentals.

I like the idea of the religious/spiritual playlist (was thinking of putting together one like that myself). But, since it's already been done, might save myself some time - care to share your's HamsterHuey?

I'd like to check the tracklist, Sir! Well, I just downloaded ALL my MP3 back-ups on an external harddrive, so now my compiling is made easier, as the best guitar work is live and I did not have those back ups on my computer untillast week, so.... Probably be done in like three weeks. I am still rounding up discographies of artist Ilost in my most recent external harddrive crash. And as you know I am REALLY uptight abut how my files appear in my Windows Media Player, so I am still VERY busy updating new files (fi; 37 David Bowie albums arriving WITHOUT any album titles, etc) re-collecting my fave artists... SO be patient and remind me of the playlist every now and then...
