People here are saying that Prince in Vegas would be cheesy, or schmalzy. The sign of a washed up artist. I assume that most of you have seen Prince live, or if you haven't that you don't assume his shows are cheesy .Why would Vegas change his shows? I think that people are worried about how Prince will be perceived. Well, anyone who tells any and everybody that they are a Prince fan knows that an awful lot of people see Prince as an MTV clone type. You know, that untalented singer standing in front of a band with no creative input whatsoever. He is already perceived as cheesy or schmaltzy or lame.
Some of you are being like a jazz or classical fan who thinks that anyone who has ever been on MTV doesn't have any laudable qualities. You're saying anybody who is in Vegas sucks.
Wrong.
As Prince fans, you've already had to disregard what other people think of Prince on countless occasions. Now, it seems, some of you are becoming one of those kind of people.
In this life, there are many things that a fan may disregard. Vegas is not one of them.
It's in the manual.

No one is saying "anybody who is in Vegas sucks." That's not even logical, but I'm sure you already know this.

You say: "He is already perceived as cheesy or schmaltzy or lame."
So what does that mean? That he should ride the cheesy, schmaltzy, lame wave, while he can?
Your logic is off.

This Vegas thing is coming out of left field on me and it appears that a lot of other fans are confused about it as well.

This is Prince coloring in the lines. Conforming to the norm. Following in the footsteps of Gladys Night, Frank Sinatra, Elvis etc. I find it extremely un-Prince like. He once said he stopped being risque with his music and lyrics and videos not because of his religious beliefs but because everybody else was doing it. "If everyone else is doing it.." he said "it's not cool anymore". He was the Artist that made it his business to push the envelope "off the table onto the floor". Now he's falling in line? Taking the road most frequently traveled? How do you explain this? It's a complete contradiction. Only thing that comes to mind is the money $$$$. Vegas is crazy money!!! - Two X wives can put a beat down on your funds even if you are already a multi millionaire. Cant find any other way to explain it. neutral

No.I'm saying he's not cheesy or schmaltzy or lame. But that a lot of people do think that. Why do you thihnk that he is riding a "cheesy, schmaltzy, lame wave"? Because that's what non-fans think? Who cares what they think. We've been defending him to friends and family for years. Why not now?

I think you confused yourself on that one.
I was only quoting you and restating your own line of reasoning.

And while I don't think that Vegas is the best idea, I do think that because so many are accustomed to the Prince phases, he can possibly pull Vegas off as just another one. But the show would have to be done Princerace style...Vegas to the max. But even with that, there are delicate lines that can't be crossed. Hopefully he finds the correct balance.

He'll be lactose free if he ignores the Sinatra and Michael Jackson covers.....
