Hi All.
Like myself, I'm sure many of you own or have seen the dvd of Prince in Las Vegas. Many of you were probably familiar with the song "Whole Lotta Love" which I was not. Prince just blew me away (as he always does) while performing this song. Just would like to know what some of you think, especially those that are Led Zepplin fans and/or guitar playing experts.....

Also, for those that aren't to familiar with his guitar skills, don't you think his play on this song would be a great example to show?

That's probably my favorite part of the DVD.

I know what you mean. This is one of my favorite performances. He was totally wicked on the guitar. I would love for him to bring that one back to future shows.

Great song (always liked one hit wonders Goldbug's version of it, check it out). Can't really beat Led Zeppelin's version though, but just shows how well Prince does rock and should put more on albums. It may be easy for him ("Rock n' roll 101") but it just sounds so damned good.

I don't think the version on the DVD is his best, the distorted camera effects ruin it somewhat, and the long fade out is a bit weak, I've heard much better versions on boots from other concerts and also when I heard it live at Manchester UK in 2002.

It's not what I would show if I was trying to get his guitar skills across to someone else - it lacks a little direction and focus compared to other times he's done (IMO). And he's put himself up against Jimmy Page's absolutely faultless original (live or stuido versions). Of things that have been officially released on VHS or DVD, I would usually reach for The Ryde from Sacrifice of Victor VHS when attempting to show off his chops to other players. There is fantastic stuff on bootleg, but will never see the light of day.

I actually think he could do a killer cover of "since I've been loving you" vocal screams and guitars aplenty!

The cover i would have loved to have heard him do was when the pre 3121 launch
gigs were happening and he performed "You Shook Me All Night Long"...

I feel that the Vegas version is really weak compared to any other version of it I have heard or seen him do. That said...it is a weak cover. I feel the same about that as I do when other musicians attempt to cover Prince.

I loved it, but I was really disappointed when he didn't finish it. He never got to my favorite part: "Shake for me, girl/I wanna be your back-door man"

So I loved the song, I just wish he'd done the whole thing. Not that I wasn't thrilled with the guitar.

There was a live boot from 2002, that Prince did Whole Lotta Love on, that is freaking incredible. It ranks right up there with Just My Imagination, as one of my favorite guitar solos of his. The DVD version of it is a really watered down performance compared to this version.

Th e guitar is good but Im not a fan of his flasetto in this song. Its wee too high for my taste. He needed to get gutteral voiced with this one imho.

I agree 100%. A girl I knew hipped me to this boot and yeah, P turns it out on this song. As much as I dig Zeppelin, I was never that fond of this song. Even though I dig Page's playing on it. There are many other examples of P's playing that is better than either version of this cover, but I do dig both.

Really only one performance to have, June 25th 2002 as featured on the Thunderball version of "Xenophobia".

Now i shall return to the underworld.

I love seeing Prince live coz he seems 2 enjoy it so much, which makes it enjoyable 4 every1 else. Which is probably why most of the stuff played in concert ends up sounding better than the studio stuff, plus the covers he does R gr8!
