WBAI....." REAL D.J.'S PLAYING MUSIC BY REAL MUSICIANS!" New York City was treated tonight for 11 outrageous hours of some of the best live Prince and the NPG music you will ever hear! WBAI radio station in New York City gave their all by celebrating this weekend with the love, music and joy of one of music;s greatest performers of all time, Prince! It was mostly live music from Prince's current 2002 tour, but it was all good!
First up was the NPG Music Club track,"When Will We B Paid." Then it just fired up into the Tuesday April 9th Live show in New York City's Avery Fischer Music Hall. They played the full 3 hour concert performance, that in my opinion was just about one of the best shows I had ever experienced Prince perform! The show opened up with the title cut from Prince's latest cd, " The Rainbow Children." Then came, " Muse To The Pharoah," followed by the live jam, " Xenophobia." This show was for the true follower of the NPG! Very few hits and lots of new music and some tunes that only the band and Prince knew! Prince did play," When U Were Mine," " Raspberry Beret," and " Take Me With U," but that was really it for the old hit jams that we all get tired of! Oh yeah, there was " Purple Rain," but it was done without the guitar solo that we've all heard a million times. It's great, but as a true follower, I rather hear him play something else cool with the time he has! Prince did a Santana Medley that was slammin, but before he went into that jam he did a bit of a classic Stevie Wonder tune called, " Another Star." That really surprised me! Then WBAI played the Aftershow in New York City on the night of April 9th at Times Square's, "The World." I did not attend that show but I heard it all on the radio! Prince did a wonderful version of, " Joy In Rep," that featured a blistering guitar jam that would of blown anybody out of there socks!!! " George Clinton" showed up and performed as well as " Alicia Keys" and " Doug E. Fresh." Then when that two hour aftershow was finshed there was a few hours of the, " Xenophobia Celebration 2002!" WOW!!! This was really good!!! Prince came out and played a long solo guitar spot that lead into,"Bambi, " that followed by a real shocker!!! Prince played, " Whole Lot Of Love," by Led Zeppelin, Prince Style! That was it...I needed a break after that!! I never expected that song to pop up in any Prince set list! There were a ton of rarely performed tunes like, " Elephants and Flowers," " God," " Paisley Park,"and so on! WBAI played very few Jams from the NPG Music Club. They did play, "Judas Kiss," " Hypnoparadise," " SM Groove," and a new track from Prince and George Clinton called, " Paradigm," which is suppose to be on George Clinton's new cd! This was a great change for WBAI because in the past they played the usual songs that they play every year!! I love their show and it has a tremendous amount of Spirit!! All of the Prince Tribute's in the past have been really great, but they just keep on getting better every year just like Prince and his bands!! My love goes out to WBAI and their fight for Freedom!!! I can't wait for the next one!!! Thank You for Giving Prince what he deserve's, REAL D.J.'S PLAYING MUSIC BY REAL MUSICIANS!
